I just came back from my first dogpacking trip : an overnighter loop between Bordeaux and Blaye with a short Ferry crossing.
Leia (3-year-old Border Collie), is very used to being on the bike, but more so in an urban setting. Obviously she enjoyed the trip.
The bike:
- Omnium Mini-Max in Blurple
- Deore 11sp with 30t in the front and 11-51t in the back
- Deore 4 piston brakes, 200mm front and 160mm back discs
- Schwalbe Rocket Ron and Racing Ralph tires, with tubes
- DamGood ouch-1 platform hinges and stud-1 steerer coupler
- Brooks B17 carved
- Peak Design phone mount
- random bits for the rest
Leia:
- born September 2021 in a litter of 10 girls
- both mother and father are working dogs
- lean running machine
- loves humans and cuddles
- only likes some dogs
- trusts me without fail
The crate:
- cheap 60*40cm crate by Auer, bought used
- pool noodle and old foam pad
- custom 3D printed bottle cage adapters
The bags:
- Ortlieb 5.8L fork packs mounted on the rear rack
- Tent on top of the rack
- Ortlieb Handlebar pack QR
- random drybag in front of the crate
- DIY frame bag
This trip was all about testing this setup, and also trying out vlogging for the first time. The Handlebar pack will go, it just don’t work for me, I will also buy the Ortlieb Dry Pack 16L to put on the rear rack, and have the tent out in front. I want to make a v2 custom framebag, probably a full bag this time, and in blue and purple VX21 to match the frame color.
I also know of a few improvements I’ll need to make for the next vlog: film more b-roll, focus more on composition for static shots, use my phone instead of the Sony camera for “action” shots… I’m still sharing the link (it’s 25min long and rather chill) : https://youtu.be/Cr1moQAIQ-M?si=Tvezyhq3AEL4FFZX

I also posted more information about the bike in a recent post on the cargobikes sub : https://www.reddit.com/r/CargoBike/s/1t980oxuOt
Enjoyed the vid, have been thinking about a Cargo bike for my doggy Adventures.
