The last two weeks I spend bikepacking the Pyrenees from Bayonne to Perpignan and then up the coast to Avignon.
Because I didn’t find to much information about bikepacking the Pyrenees beforehand I decided to share my route and some pictures. Note that this is exactly how I went (with every stop at the supermarket etc.) so you probably shouldn’t follow it point by point. I total I cycled 1470km, 22600vm and 21 mountain passes. (14 Days of riding and 1 rest day) From this around 1100km and 2100vm in the Pyrenees. Every night I stayed at a campsite, which was no problem because most of the time every few Kilometers was one. So I can’t say anything about wild camping. I wouldn’t recommend you do it in mid summer, because there were some pretty long and steep ascents in the sun. You have to plan ahead regarding food supply. Especially in the western part there are kinda long strengths with no Marktes, also most of them are closed during mid day.
Originally I wanted to cross back to french after cycling the ordesa valley in Spain by
Torla-Ordesa. But it’s not really possible by gravel bike, it’s basically a steep hiking path. I crossed bike by Bielsa via a tunnel. In it bicycles are banned to I had to take a taxi from Bielsa through the tunnel. I think from the french side you could just do it. On this side was no stuff, also the tunnel descents in Spanish direction. I payed 35€ for it, I think during main session it’s actually for free a few times a week.
If you have questions regarding my route or equipment just ask in the comments.
