After recommendations from this group, I drove to D.C. yesterday and bought this 2010 Surly LHT. I’ve already ordered racks, panniers, stem and spacers, and new tires since these are dry-rotted. I’ve already got an old seatpost that will go on as well as real platform pedals insteadof the display plastic seen here. Looking to replace these atrocious brakes with something a little stronger. What’s my best option here? I read a couple articles talking about using upgraded V brakes, but I’m entirely new to this side of the world since I come from road/racing bikes. I weigh 260(dropping rapidly from regular riding) and I’ll be adding at least 40 or 50lbs worth of bags, racks, and gear and I want to at least try to avoid plunging to my death over the mountain passes I ride.
