Tributes have poured in for two sport motorcycle riders killed in a devastating crash during a British Supersport race.

Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, were both treated at the scene but later died, after 11 riders fell at the first corner at Oulton Park race track in Cheshire on Monday afternoon.

A third rider, Tom Tunstall, 47, also suffered “significant injuries”.

They were taking part in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship organised by MotorSport Vision Racing, which abandoned the race as medical services deployed to help the injured.

beauty. Owen Jenner had been excited about the season ahead. The 21-year-old was just starting his first year racing in the Quattro Group British Super Sport Championship after being crowned British GP2 champion in 2024. Hey, that’s even better than 2024 one. Check that out. 2025 lid. Beautiful. But coming out of the first turn at Alton Park yesterday, both Owen Jenner and 29-year-old New Zealander Shane Richardson were fatally injured in a catastrophic accident involving 11 riders that’s left the British superbike world in shock. Absolutely devastating. It’s something we all know can happen. We certainly don’t expect it to happen. We don’t want it to happen. And the riders would not compete if they thought it would happen to them. Owen is somebody I’ve spoken with a lot. a real character, always joking, very jovial, a real joker actually in the paddock, but of course took it as seriously as anybody. Shane Richardson posted this video on social media just before yesterday’s race. The previous New Zealand Rider of the Year and father of two had been based in Britain since 2019. He was taken to hospital with severe chest injuries, but died before arriving. Fellow New Zealand rider Cormarmac Buchanan paid tribute to him, posting a heartbroken emoji and saying, "Shane was truly one of the best people I ever had the privilege of sharing the track with. Not only a super talented rider, but a downto-earth person away from it." The accident happened towards the end of a 3-day British Superbikes event. A third rider, Tom Tonsl, is being treated for significant injuries. Chesha police are now investigating the crash along with the motorcycle circuit racing control board and the race organizers Motorsport Vision Racing. Martha Fairley, ITV News. Our correspondent Stacy Foster is live at Alton Park in Cheshire this lunchtime. Stacy, what’s the very latest on those investigations? Well, at the moment, what we know is that there are two investigations running. one by the event organizers here at Alton Park Motorsport Vision Racing alongside the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and then a second investigation by Cheshire Police on behalf of the coroner. Now, we know that both of these investigations will be examining the circumstances surrounding the leadup to the crash, that incident on lap one and of course the immediate response afterwards and the emergency response as well. Well, we know that racing was immediately stopped here due to the severity of uh that crash yesterday afternoon. Uh we know that the whole event was then cancelled. I spoke to someone involved in racing who was here at the track yesterday who said this looks like it was a freak accident, but ultimately it will now be for those investigations to determine exactly what happened here yesterday.

  1. Don't agree with him saying "they wouldn't race, if they thought it would happen to them" these guys live to race…they knew the risks and took it. Its very sad as they both so young but its what they enjoyed…

  2. My deepest and most sincere condolences to the families of the riders, I hope time reliefs their pain as soon as possible. Unfortunately life finds the cruellest ways to remind us how inherently dangerous this sport is.

  3. Unbelievable start to the season, thoughts and prayers with the families. Investigation will show, racing incident. Impossible scenario unfortunately played out.
