Darlington Station. One of Britain’s most iconic railway landmarks is undergoing a major £140 million transformation to become a modern, accessible transport hub while preserving its rich Victorian heritage.
🔧 What’s Changing?
• Two new platforms on the eastern side to boost capacity and service reliability.
• A fully accessible, enclosed footbridge linking the new platforms to the historic station building .
• A new eastern concourse with a multi-storey car park offering 600+ spaces, EV charging points, and cycle shelters .
• Upgraded pedestrian, cycling, and bus connections to improve access across the Tees Valley region .
🛠️ Project Timeline
• Construction began in 2022.
• Major milestones include the installation of a 50-tonne footbridge in February 2025 .
• Full completion is expected by December 2025, aligning with the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway .
