A little about Ed….
Ed is an elite cyclist, 2019 British Hill Climb Champion and former Under 23 British RR Champion. He has raced as a Continental level Professional Rider for one of the most successful British cycling teams in Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada, Azerbaijan to name a few. He is also a public speaker, coach, and founded the on/offline cycling community, Backpedal. At the start of 2021, the Discord community began, and plonked many of Ed’s viewers in to a 550+ strong group of people that had many things in common. Not least wanting to explore the world and pedal their bikes faster!

[Music] So, I’m out for a bike ride tonight after yesterday’s VO2 Max training session. I’m heading into Swansea City Center and I’m going to a climb that some of you might be familiar with. It’s called Constitution Hill. It’s about a 2 300 meter straight cobble street that just climbs through some houses. And the tour of Britain has actually raced up it bit it a number of years ago. Now this special occasion mini hill climb I’m doing tonight is brought to you by Insta 360. You may have seen in last night’s video session. I was looking at my lens on my what happens to be my Insta 360 X4 and I noticed there was another scratch on the lens. And the scratch on the lens is like the kiss of death. It’s like having a tubeless tire and having one too many holes in it and it will not seal. That is the end of your tire, my friend. So, about a week ago, Elsa 360 sent me the X5, which is very appreciated because they now have something called a replacement lens kit, which is a game changer, literally, because when you’re as clumsy as me, or maybe you’re just adventurous, or maybe you just love to send it, but I’m just mainly clumsy, then you will end up scratching your lens inevitably. So, the fact that you can replace the lenses on this new X5 is amazing. It’s actually a really beautiful night tonight as well. I’m coming down the cycle path which has recently been tarmaced and it’s now pristine and quite wide for at least 5 miles. Takes me right down to the seafront in Swansea. It’s really quiet this evening because it’s bank holding Monday. And I want to test out a couple of other features that this new X5 has to offer whilst also smashing a climb in at the same time. Just look how smooth this path is. Oh yes. So there’s also a new addition to the actual body of the camera and that is this new kind of windshield. Testing it out now. I don’t know how good it is, but generally I wouldn’t really be talking to you sat on the handlebars just because I’m too busy usually chewing them. So, as well as the lens changes, this camera is now taken another giant step forward, I feel. I mean, the actual body of the camera hasn’t changed much. You know, it’s still roughly the same size as the X4, still roughly the same weight. As you’d expect with most tech, the battery life has been significantly improved again, including something now that they call endurance mode. I only wish that we could have such a feature. So, as you can probably tell, sun is going down now. Sunset was about 5 minutes ago. My Garmin’s turned to dark mode. That tells you all you need to know. So, let’s see how this camera performs on this climb. So, here we are. This is uh Constitution Hill, as you can see. Technically a one-way street. Um but it’s pretty much pedestrianized. I don’t think people drive down here very much. Maybe they do, but it’s become renowned among cyclists as a bit of a hill climb challenge. Now, this should be a good test of the new pure video feature of this camera in low light situations because of its now much larger sensor. Okay, this is the new Insta frame, which essentially does its very best to keep me in the center of shot, at least in selfie mode anyway, which is what this is. She said you could do it. I’m only like 10 seconds into it. My chain doesn’t like [Applause] it. He’s so steep. I’m wimping out. I’m not on the cobbles. It’s too bumpy. Oh, I have to go on them here. [Applause] Oh, what? What a climb. Look at it. I mean, I’m not surprised it’s one way. Um, I pretty much rode up the pavement, the smooth side. It’s not the pavement. It’s like a gutter. A couple of people cheered me on. That was nice to see on a a random Monday night. Of course, I am actually on my gravel bike, and these aren’t real cobblestones really, but it is steep. I don’t know how to get that across really. Well, insta 360 in cycling, we would say shapo. I certainly think you’ve taken it to another level with the X5 compared to the standard that was set with the X4. If you’re looking to upgrade or if this might be your first camera, it’ll be powerful enough for you and I’m sure you love it.
