Hey there— pic for attention. Quick question for those of you that better understand gearing ratios and how IHGs work than I do.

Would there be any risk/concern to change the rear cog to an 18 or 16 tooth from the standard 20 tooth? The standard chainring is 54 tooth. I live in a pretty flat area and find that the lower 3 gears I never use and the top gear is a little bit lacking with the tailwinds we get. Additionally, with 5th gear being the most efficient gear, I’m spending most of my time between 6 and 8, and I feel I could get more efficiency out the hub if I normalized the gearing for my style of riding and location.

I know the 16 tooth is offered from Shimano, but I’m struggling to find any information that I can understand anyways that would tell me if there are risks in increasing the torque on the hub. Any help from the experts would be appreciated.
