Thanks to everyone here, I ended up going to DC Junction. Thank goodness I did because I definitely needed a small G Line, and REI does not carry the small as of April 2025 (even the bike staff could not order one). The DC shop changed the chainring to a 44T and, in my case, I think that was definitely the right move as I got nowhere near the 8th gear on the test ride. The first real ride was 3mi with several 6% inclines and the G Line and I did great. It’s so fun and zippy but feels like a full size bike!
My use case is keeping it in my car for whenever I can squeeze in daily rides/ adventures, and today was a perfect example of driving back into town after a day trip to another city, and then stopping in at the local greenway/park before heading home.
The price increase was announced the day the Brompton was delivered. The Borough basket and saddle mounted Cateye light are arriving tomorrow. 🎉
Likes:
– The saddle
– Pedals
– Smooth shifting/ gears
– 20” wheels + chunky tires (rode in light gravel and grass so well!)
– Color: frame (def more champagne than white) & black components
– Bell (silly, but true)
– Disc brakes
– Upright riding position
Dislikes:
– Price (for me it’s worth it but not if it would have resulted in debt)
– The bike tips to the side just enough so that when it’s pushed folded, it only rolls on 3 of the rack wheels (while the back left rack wheel does not make contact with the ground).
– When I dropped the handlebars while the GLine was folded on an uneven surface, the bike almost fell over. Definitely needs a rack wheel extender.
TBA:
– Shopping cart mode
– How ling before brakes need bleeding
– How long before the Alfine needs a dip
Questions for you:
1. The mechanic in DC didn’t seem to think keeping the bike on its side (handlebars up) and folded, in the trunk/boot would be a problem. Anyone have experience with this?
-
I saw that some people get scratches on the rear rack from rolling folded so I’m thinking of applying electrical tape on the rack rails- anyone tried this or have a better suggestion?
-
I could not figure out from the manual if the saddle “collar” is meant to touch the O rings on the seat post, or whether the saddle “collar” is meant to be centered on the slimmer top portion of the seat post (above the O rings). Thoughts?
-
There is a visible gap when the frame hinge clamps together (not referring to the hinge itself but the frame). Is this normal?

I tilted the handle bars toward me and that has helped me not lock out my elbows. There is still some discomfort in my hands. I’m thinking I need to scoot the shifters/brakes all the way up to the handlebar grips and put the bell on the outside of the shifters. Any thoughts/tips?
