This week, we took a detour through Romania, where we were blown away by the incredible hospitality of the locals. After crossing into Bulgaria, we navigated the busy roads of the north before tackling the tough climb to 1700m through the Balkan Mountains at Troyan Pass, the highest mountain pass in Bulgaria. We paid a visit to the Arch of Freedom, then enjoyed an exhilarating downhill ride to the beautiful and cultural city of Plovdiv, with its majestic old town and rich history.

  1. I watch every episode of your journey! I have a girlfriend who has ancestors living in Singapore and I am from Switzerland myself. It would be a dream to do something like you two are doing now, since I also love to cycle. I am a bit scared of dogs however, and I have heard there are many in Bulgaria and Romania. Have you had scary experiences?

Glad to see Lara has the brains to pull the stunt off right at 2:08.

    I don't.

I tried something similar when I was 10 year old, but flew over my handlebars like a bird …and landed in the emergency room. Not my finest moment.

The aerial shots of Plovdiv at the base of the Balkan Mountains were beautiful.

Love the sunset harmonica! Sergio Leone himself would have applauded.

Bruce Lee would pee himself with fear at 12:59 hahaha

As always, great episode – thank you!
