Are E-Bikes Being Left Behind in the Green Revolution?

The UK government has set ambitious targets to become carbon neutral by 2050, with a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035. Billions are being invested into green energy, electric vehicles, and infrastructure to help protect our planet. But there’s one major problem—e-bikes are being left out of the conversation.

In this video, we explore why e-bikes, one of the most efficient and eco-friendly transport options available today, are being overlooked and criminalised in government policy and public funding. From their low carbon footprint to their potential to revolutionise urban transport, we ask the big question: why aren’t e-bikes part of the plan? Or are the government trying to flush out e-bikes for good

  1. Maybe if the Government made it simple to make the powerful e-bike legal, more would.. I know that some people wouldn't just like car insurance etc.. but say for £50-100 at time of sale it could all be done, registration plate, insurance or something.. But no the bloody government just make thing illegal to own / use.. but NOT SELL / IMPORT.. crazy!

Having been to China recently, you wouldn't believe the amount of E-bikes, Scooters, small motor bike types (like vespa), Carts (like golf carts) it was crazy but all LEGAL. registered.. A golf type say 3000w was £300, most were used as local taxi. Nearly got a motor bike type for £250 just to use on holiday..

  2. Insurance is the channel through which all commercial change happens. Weird but true.
I'm old and need an e bike but I'm surrounded by huge hills so need a powerful one. Which would be criminal. PS I worry your insurance will be cancelled next year

  3. I have a car for weekend use and shopping(limited miles insurance policy) and also two 2000w converted bikes, I use the bikes to commute to work as it saves me money on fuel and also to get through traffic and im never late. I have used my ebike for a couple of years now and never had any problems with the police, I wear a helmet and im considerate. I don't wish to buy a moped or get a bike licence for the simple being cost. I also live in a flat so have to carry my bike upstairs so theres that also. If I got rid of my car I would still use my ebike, it's become part of my life now. The government doesn't like them for the fact they cant make money out of us and it'll stay that way. A 250w bike is useless for where I live with the hills so need 2000w minimum.

  4. By a bike they say it will be good for your mental health they say.i agree 👍 wholeheartedly police give the good guy a break we are not all bad people ❤

  5. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE THINKING,I LOVE MY ENGWE (UNLOCKED OBVIOUSLY)AS LONG AS YOU DON'T RIDE ABOUT LIKE A WHOPPA YOUR ALRIGHT..(TOUCH WOOD)❤YOURVIDS…

  6. I do find it bizarre how they're making it so difficult. My e-scooter had all the required functionality to be road legal, just about. I had been riding it for a few years as I were recovering from a crash because a road-legal EAPC nearly stopped my existence due to not having that boost to get me out of danger but instead the motor sees phantom pedals and pulled me into danger instead. I still have the E-scooter in bits as per request of the officer who let me ride it home at least. I know enough officers had seen me about where I'm seen to ride safely not speeding, so tht probably helped. Well I'm back onto EAPC bikes, one being an even more glitchy Bafang B98 and the other being a BTWI Velocargo R500E which seems to have a 400W peak starting capacity and is legal only because the motor is rated for continuous 250W.
I have a CB125F 2016 model, but given the way things go, by the time I pass for my full test, I'd not have access to petrol to fuel the 125cc or any other bike for that matter.
This is kinda reminiscent of the bikers of the past where society saw bikers' existence as illegal (hence why many biker bars hosted secret LGB clubs, fun trivia there), though at least back then bikes were easier to register, tax and insure than E-bikes are now days.

  7. When I ride mine out i feel as though wearing a helmet brings unwanted attention but at the same time I don’t want to go out without the face covering I don’t fancy wearing a balaclava cause then you do look like a wrong one, I don’t want a road legal one I just want to enjoy the freedom it brings I literally ride quietly to a field and just enjoy going up and down a few little jumps (like I used to on a 150cc 4 stroke back when I was a kid) it’s quiet no one really bats an eye lid however I feel if I just went up without wearing a helmet or mask of sort am i risking getting face recognition? There’s no way I’m getting it took off of me!

  8. i love my e-bike, it has got me out the house after 3 serious heart attacks, without it i would be lost..i go to some great places where i live and do my drone photography

  9. It's all about the money money money

e bikes don't use enough energy to make them profitable to the shareholders of the energy companies.

Who's the majority of the shareholders? Politician's

  10. ebikes are threat to income. Whos? Car manufactures and government. There a lot Fees associated with a cars and motorbikes, Someone gets an ebike they are now no longer in the money pot.

  11. I’ve got a Surron lbx and its helped me explore and find things in my area I never even knew about and it’s made me have fun again in the woods I have a bad knee so I can’t peddle for long but with the lbx I go everywhere just wished I dint have to worry about it getting take by police every time am out

  12. A driver awareness course is not offered as a standard alternative for using a mobile phone while driving in the UK. The option for a driver course was removed in 2017 when the penalty points for this offence were increased to six.

Motorcycles, no matter the source of power, are subject to regulation.

  13. Australia is even worse… e-bikes are limited to 200w and 250w for EPAC also a max of 25kph or about 15mph before the motor cut off or when the rider stops pedaling … (All states are very similar)

  14. There is a huge difference between a electric bicycle and an electric motorcycle. What you are riding is an electric motorcycle.
