I wonder if this move is to ensure security exclusively for european democracies or they would extend these moves globally. China is a threat to european economic security, too. Would they assist Taiwan? Sweden is probably the best positioned to resist China in Europe.
Putin can put ONE major achievement into his biography. He managed what two World Wars couldn't: To force Sweden to pick a side.

Sweden is near Russia so I think that it is in its interest to help Ukraine as much as it can and that goes for Finland, Norway, Poland, Slovakia and others. Some countries further away like Spain, Portugal and Italy are in my opinion not helping Ukraine as much as they ought to do.
My message to the Scandinavian group. The Finnish/Russian border is too long. Run some referenda in the areas north of Belomorsk or even Onega to see if the locals want to be annexed, move the southern end of the border within shelling distance of St Petersberg so that the residents can see across the border and see what they are missing out on. When Moscow objects just say, "just taking back what was ours and denatzifying the area." Lakes make good natural barriers. 😀

These are the moments when I feel especially proud of Sweden. Pointing to the case where Sweden got things rolling so fast: we roll (generally) on consensus-based decisions. And while that management style might take some time to build up steam, once it gets rolling, it's all hands on deck. As you mentioned, this is a bi-partisan decision, so I can imagine long days and nights negotiating but once that is done, everyone is invested and works towards a common goal.
Oh, and if I could wish for just one thing. Ukraina needs maritime assets, right? Lease one Gotland-class sub to my PMC and let the crew go full viking all over the Black Sea. If it can "sink" USS Ronald Reagan, it ought to be able to sneak through the Bosporus, right?

10,000,000 people in the whole country. The population of London is in that ballpark. Thank goodness that there are still some countries (or a country at least) who value other nations for their sacrifices, rather than for a 50% split of their resources.
Trump diplomacy should be met with the disgust it deserves, and Europe should look out for its own. A decisive demonstration of unity and resolve could have ended this conflict within the 3 days it was supposed to last, and made it clear to all that we will meet agression with immediate and decisive action.
Russia has shown total disregard for agreements on the use of chemical weapons, targetting of civilians, respect for borders, poisoning people under UK protection and the lives of its own citizens. Given these "behaviours", I find it unbelievable that large players within Europe (most notably Germany) have allowed themselves almost totally reliant on their oil and gas, that the UK allowed oligarks to buy up London housing, cut defence spending until they have no credible defence forces, etc. The list of idiotic risk taking is almost endless. I've always been a believer that war is wrong. Recent events have made me drop this belief. The number of complete dictatorships within the world is now so high, and the people ruling them so rediculous, that without defence, you are done. The worst of all is the new "governance" within the US. How long before they begin collecting sovereign states in order to meet the future? Oh, they've already started. Ukraine (50%) Canada, (aim is 100%), Greenland (aim is 100%). And their leader is orange! It's disgusting.
Slight correction: The Center Party is not part of the governing coalition in Sweden. It's in opposition. Not that it matters much, because the opposition broadly backs large scale support to Ukraine, and Russia is so completely reviled that it breaks the conventional wisdom of polling (91% disapproval, 1% approval according to a recent poll)
It's a European problem. Europeans should figure it out. Not Americans, we're sick of funding NATO. It's crazy We give more money than anybody else, and we don't even live in Europe. It's about time somebody step up.

As much as I dislike Donald Trump, he was right about one thing – Europe is not doing enough for Ukraine. Sweden just joined Nato and they are showing more balls than some of the "big military powers" like UK, Germany and France.
Just hope that the donated money go for the aimed purposes and not end up at tne cons' pockets…I remenber the US nation building in Afghanistan that lasted two decades and in a. fortnight after the withdrawal of US troops the talibans took Kabul…much of the US dollars spent in Nation building in 20 years were to finance bogus military divisions of the Afghan Army and ended un in corrupted elite members' pockets. A kind warning to the Swedes…phisically Ukrainians look like the Swedes but culturally and concerning corruption resilience Ukrainians are far away from the average Swede!
