The lovely folks at Rapha challenged me to find and ride the UK’s hardest / toughest / hilliest most brutal 100km ahead of their Women’s 100 this Sunday, 6th September.

I did start plotting, but then came across the route we rode in this video which was created by a chap called Mark who lives in Sheffield. He submitted it for the Band of Climbers toughest 100km and won. So yep this is officially the hardest 100km route in the UK.

We rode it as a way to share the route and encourage you all, especially some of the women out there (you got this!) to do a challenging 100km as part of the Rapha Women’s 100.

Let me know if you ride it!

  1. Nice work! We had a brief chat outside the cafe that morning when i was having Garmin issues! I've been eagerly awaiting your video so i could re-live the ride. What a route! The one climb that caught me out was 'Long Line' almost back at Sheffield – dead straight road that wouldn't end and by then my legs were done!
    Great effort! 🙂

  2. Katie, what in the world are you running over where you are getting so many punctures? I have been riding here in North Dakota for three years now and have never had a puncture on my road bike. I love the content, btw. 😋

  3. Welcome to Sheffield, home of the hills, and The Magnificent seven hill climb race and Pure
Peak grit 640 km and 29000 foot of climbing, Pearoyd has held the national hill climb championships on it.

  4. You need to come and ride the Gold Coast hinterland Katie Kookaburra, especially up Tambourine Mountain a road called Henri Robert Drive, theres a section on it that is 22% for 2.5km with sections of 25%+ but the view from the top is gorgeous ! Would be happy to put you up if you came to Queensland 🙂

  5. 7:34 There's the 'Cote de Bradfield' near Sheffield and the 'Beast of Bradwell' out in the Hope Valley – two different climbs! I blew up halfway up the second one having misjudged my effort – luckily I was on the touring bike 🙂

  6. Hi, try 'Bike Seal' in your tubless tyres. I use it in my motorcycle tyres it's brilliant and never drys out! The company is called Bike Seal Ltd, based in Yeovil, you can buy direct from them…😊

  7. I just started cycling in april agrd 51 , become addicted and have cycled 4000 km this year ! Done my first 100 km last month ! Luckily not many hills here ! I donw 103 km at 25.7 kmh with an elevation of 616 metres vs your 3000 metres !

  8. Did something similar a couple of weeks back, lower to upper bradfield was very tough, but I found pea royd harder perhaps because it came later in my ride. I went down and back up a couple, Jackson bridge which was great (try if if you haven’t) and deliverance (ewden bank) which it looks like you came down – that almost destroyed me coming so near the end.
