Day 59. 85km (86518kms)
How lovely to have stayed with such passionate students in the student city of Toulouse. Though I’ve been travelling almost since they were born! Ouch.
Leaving the canal I was headed south now towards the Pyranees. Initially there was a bike lane out of Toulouse but before long it was back to the country road network, through flat fields into an increasingly annoying headwind. Consequently with my head down I didn’t get to see much, so when I looked up and saw snow-capped mountains it came as somewhat of a surprise! Effectively flat all day, I reached the foothills by late afternoon and began almost imperceptibly climbing. The proper stuff starts tomorrow.
Grumbling to myself about the weather in the final 20kms the wind dropped, and the clouds descended obscuring the mountains. Rain was coming and it was forecasted to persist through tomorrow.
For now though it remained dry as I looked for a camp. The rail trail I’d seen on the map turned out to be across a tall bridge and into the hills, so not much in the way of flat spots to pitch a tent. Instead I followed the example of the motorhomes parked up under the bridge and found a nice quiet spot at the bottom of the valley instead.

The Tour de France mountain stages begin tomorrow. Good luck.
Isn’t that always the way? 🍷 Hopefully you’ll discover a great wine in Spain. Safe travels! ⛰️
You are probably in or through Andorra by now. I used to ski there for decades but even thirty years ago, when I last visited, the main, and only, road through the Principality was jammed with heavy traffic so I hope you negotiated your way through safely. Looking forward to seeing your travels through Spain.
Those bicycle barriers???? strange.
Hot toast lots of butter and Vegemite plus nice strong cup of English Breakfast tea. Hope she is still alive
Nice jungle camp, enjoy the wine and the climb
Saving the best ( wine) till last !
🍷
Are the Pyranees mountains anywhere near the Pyrenees mountains?
