Jacques Reinold, wrongfully accused of causing a fatal accident, flees to Barcelona where he is saved from despair by a kind-hearted cabaret singer, Maria. As the truth of his innocence comes to light, Maria sacrifices her love so Jacques can find happiness with Laurence, the daughter of the Judge who condemned him. Torn between Maria’s selfless love and a chance at happiness with Laurence, Jacques ultimately finds redemption and a new beginning.

  2. If for nothing else, we have a remembrance of Barcelona at the start of the Franco regime. Lots of interesting little touches, including the cabaret's female impersonator. Thanks for the upload!

  3. An altogether excellent film. There is drama and poetry here as only the French can do. Fine cinema photography, acting and story. A highly enjoyable and successful film. I was born in 1936 what a pity I had to wait 89 years to see this. I think it was worth the wait.
