Freedom of Information Request, allocated Reference FOI-1384-2425
Request
You are proposing a dutch roundabout on the Ickles in Rotherham. Can you give me the terms of reference for it and the costs you have put aside to do this study.
Response in this response the council has provided a formal response to your FOI request, however in responding we felt that just providing an FOI response did not provide the needed information regarding the junction in question, therefore in addition to the FOI response we have provided some further narrative under the business as usual (BAU) regime.
Response to FOI request:
The council are not currently proposing a ‘Dutch roundabout’ at Ickles Roundabout, therefore the answer to your FOI request is that no information is held.
Further narrative under BAU
Although the council is not currently proposing a ‘Dutch’ roundabout, the council are investigating potential junction improvements at this location. This has included the issue of an Expression of Interest to potential suppliers to conduct some studies into potential options for junction improvements at this location, potentially looking at replacing the roundabout with a traffic-signal controlled junction.
This includes investigations into methods of signal control that are employed in the Netherlands to establish whether deployment of these might allow for a more efficient junction. Unfortunately, this documentation was mistitled and this has resulted in a misunderstanding that a Dutch Roundabout is under consideration – for the avoidance of doubt, this is not an option under consideration.
If you would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact the Council’s Interim Head of Transportation, Nat Porter, by email at transportation@rotherham.gov.uk or on telephone number 01709 382121.
If you are dissatisfied with the FOI response you have received, you are entitled to request the Council to undertake an Internal Review. A request for an Internal
Review must be made within 40 working days from the date of this response. Any Ref. FOI-1384-2425 2 Issued 16/04/2025
request must state the reasons as to why you believe the response to be incorrect.
Failure to provide this information will result in the review being unable to address any specific concerns you may have.
Supplementary information or information not relevant to this specific request will not be considered as part of the Internal Review. It must be related to the original request.
Further information can also be found at www.ico.org.uk, which is the website of the Information Commissioner’s Office [ICO]. The ICO is the relevant regulatory body for matters relating to FOI, EIR and Data Protection.
