Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!

If you’re new to my channel and videos, hi! I’m Evan Edinger, and I make weekly “comedy” videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I’m also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I’ll see you next Sunday! 🙂

If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I’ve listed each item, what it’s great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:

  1. Err fact check. Cars are the dominant form of transport in London, the noise is being removed over the next 15 years as they all become EVs and the road noise is handled by actually fixing the road.

  2. Evan – we love the vis and want you to keep making them, so please fix your helmet – too loose and the the little pieces on the sides where the 2 straps join should be just under your earlobes. Otherwise, you fall and it can actually hurt you more.

  3. You claimed several times that the tunnel is “exclusively for cars”. That’s obviously not true. Is cycling turning you into a car-hater?
It only adds 1 lane for cars, the other lane is exclusively for buses and HGVs etc.

  4. Agree with everything, but also why can't they put a little bike track on the edge of the stairs in the grenwich foot tunnel? All you need is some metal guttering that matches the curve of the stairs. It would need to be a little wider than for a straight staircase, but probably the chespest way of making that staircase almost better than the lift when used with a bike

  5. 13:11 You should not pass any large vehicle on the left, that is how cyclists can get injured or possibly die. I'm surprised you did that after talking about how the driver may not be able to see you.

  6. Come on, you are scared of Trafalgar road 😂
I have travelled down that road thousands of times since the 90’s and it is one of the easiest on a bike/ebike.
The reason being the traffic is always slow and you don’t get crazies wanting to take over you at 80mph.

  7. You kind of hint at issues with blackwall tunnel, it might become inoperable one day. Maybe blackwall could be converted to a cycle/ pedestrian tunnel.

  8. That ride looked absolutely terrifying. I've had some traumatising moments on my bicycle over the years but that looked like a montage of all of them, one after the other.

  9. I bet fixing or even replacing the elevator at the Blacktown pedestrian tunnel would be cheaper!
As a Canadian viewer, that Silvertown cycle shuttle screams “bandaid” across the pond. A last minute bandage after everyone realized that they had forgot about cyclists but it was too late to fix it.

  10. Its better than disrespecting your lungs and taking the Blackwall tunnel, but only just !
And can I see anyone using it after they start charging, like you… no.

  11. A cycle shuttle you can't even legally cycle to from the cycle bridge, really is quite impressive! Thank you for making this long whinge – it needed doing.

  12. Not everyone has an easy expensive ebike to climb those hills… Also car insurance/tax are expensive, and comfortable against the weather. Also if you want it to go cheaper you need to collect NCB. Why pay for something and then take a risk with a bike that could get stolen/ have accidents with.

  13. 8:12 is where my problem lies and the point at which I feel (as primarily a motorist) that both cyclists, public transport users and motorists should realise that we’re not opposing each other, but we’re in fact all on the same team in opposition to tfl.

Motorists are told that the reason for all the inconveniences we face – from tolled roads, reduced lanes, 20mph limits etc – is out of concern for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users. “To make a safer London for everyone” we’re told, and this is the direction we must go in for a cleaner, safer, less congested London. Cycling, walking and taking the bus. But if it is the case that these modes of transport are the apparent future then that foot tunnel is a SHOCKING sight for me as a motorist (although not a surprising sight as I’ve used the Woolwich foot tunnel and it’s in the same condition) because surely that’s not how we take care of the cyclists and pedestrians the government is so insistent we all become?

Cyclists insist the government doesn’t care about them, it only prioritises motorists; motorists insist the same in reverse. At what point do we stop pointing our guns at each other and realise the government doesn’t care about either of us? They use cyclists and transit users as a disguise to justify every scheme that is really just designed to suck more money out of the pockets of motorists, whilst actually giving cyclists, pedestrians and transit users nothing in return save for a a useless £2bn tunnel for both of us, and a dilapidated foot tunnel as a supposed “alternative”.

  14. I live nearby as well and actually watched the video from that other YouTuber you mentioned before this came up 🤣
Anyway, the only reason why the new tunnel exists is because trucks/lorries/busses couldn't drive through the Blackwall tunnel. There are traffic flow problems around that area as well but doubt this will do much to fix it.
I do like your idea of converting the Blackwall tunnel into pedestrian/cycling friendly infrastructure. Hopefully TFL actually plan it out better instead of getting a subcontractor to build and design the tunnel.

  15. I agree that from a cyclist’s perspective, many aspects of the tunnel feel asinine. But as someone who relies on the 108 as part of their daily commute, I can tell you that its benefits likely extend far beyond the “2 minute walk within the Silvertown area” you mentioned.

  16. Wait just one second. Do you really code switch accents when riding public transportation in London? … wow Evan. You’re a little too old for those types of shenanigans

  17. They built it to ease traffic in central London, trying to cross the themes and Blackwall tunnel, then they made the new and Blackwall tunnel a toll tunnel so I reckon that it will not solve anything but make it worse

  18. I want to make fun how bad this is but I live in germany and our bicycle infrastructure is equally bad. I always double my routes to drive on nice smalle green paths instead of going anywhere near where cars drive.

  19. As a Norwegian I can relate. Everyone here is obsessed with tunnels. Now they’re building two completely useless tunnels around my small town for no other reason than not gettin’ enough “holes” in their marriage.

  20. As a cyclist who lives in East London and used to live in Greenwich, this video really speaks to me. I would have genuinely been shocked if you'd arrived and both elevators were working in Greenwich foot tunnel 😒

  21. Am someone who lives outside London and the fact that we spend £2500 per person on transport and £5 per person for the rest of the country and we have the only two city’s in Europe not connected by a motorway and that’s the route for the biggest airport in the north that sees massive queuing everyday on a a road and no plans to change that, this just makes the north feels a forgotten land, hs2 isn’t coming this way anymore, cycle lanes can forget about those, just painting a cycle sign on a main road with barely enough room for cars with no changes.can guess the reason they use a bus is that the fumes if ride through the tunnel would probably kill cyclists.

  22. It's a pity they didn't include a separate tunnel for cyclists, but then this tunnel was built primarily for HGV's, double decker buses (possibly) and other commercial vehicles, to relieve pressure on the ailing Blackwell Tunnel, which is constantly being closed for maintenance. As someone who grew up in Poplar, I know how the closures can affect the area.
And as we move, albeit slowly, to EV's, we're still going to need a means to cross the river. What is annoying are the tolls, given that the newer Blackwall Tunnel was built and paid for without tolls, and that was less than 30 yrs after WW2.
