31st March 2025:

The weather was sunny and pretty warm, so I recklessly abandoned my cycling trousers and ventured out in my (very old) Abertillery Wheelers racing shorts, and rode from the moorings in Nantwich up to Hurleston Locks, which mark the start / or end, of the Llangollen Canal.

I was planning on turning the boat next day and heading that way, so it was a good opportunity to check out the locks beforehand at my leisure. I began the ride at Nantwich Aqueduct, one of Thomas Telford’s wonderful constructions, dating from 200 years ago.

Along the way, the towpath was variable – and I took a little tumble, but it was a great ride and I saw many boats and passed lots of people who were out enjoying the weather!

Hope you enjoy the video!

Jeff

  1. Good morning Jeff, nice to see the sunshine encouraging you to partially strip off & get the Brompton out! I'd end up in the canal if l cycled that path, looks way too narrow for me & my balance problems.
Attractive piece of canal, good to see you relaxing & enjoying living aboard.

  2. We really enjoyed cycling on the L&L in lockdown and that's how our canal adventures started !
Lucky you went into the hedge and not the canal 😊

  3. Hi Jeff, enjoyed the Ride you did hope you didn’t get Scratched going through that edge row, lovely scenery and lovely part canal , I walked me dog part way last week I always look out for Glady’s, Great video Jeff. John (Nb Coccium)

  4. Nice e vlog Jeff, It's different seeing the water from the Towpath I usedto cycle a fair bit years ago but never a fold up bike with the smaller wheels are they much harder, You got me thinking the lock numbers it seems on the Llangollen they number lock flights from the Llangollen end using 1to whatever rather than giving every lock its own number like the system it's certainly different, take care.😊

  5. Hi Jeff, good to see the Brompton out again. Are you sure you are not going that fast 😀A lovely stretch of canal and towpath and a lovely day too. Gladys looking splendid there at the end. At last, I've finally caught up with your uploads phew!!! Looking forward to your cruise on the Shropshire Union to Hurleston Junction in tomorrow's video and you never know, I may even watch it on the day even though I'll still be at work. Take care Jeff 👍
