Parliament returned for a rare Saturday session to pass an emergency law aimed at stopping the closure of British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant.
Sir Keir Starmer said the law would allow the Government to take control and prevent the Chinese owner from shutting the blast furnaces and said full nationalisation is possible, with “all options” still on the table.
Talks have been ongoing after owner Jingye deemed the furnaces financially unviable.

There is NO prediction made by the climate change lobby over the past 30 years that has come true, (eg Death of the Polar bears, melting of permafrost etc.) so why should we believe anything they say now? Also, wildfires have been a fact of life in California for all of my 70 year life on earth and the only reason for the severity of these most recent events has been the stupid law that prohibits landowners, on environmental grounds, from clearing the brush in the spring time. Most of Southern Europe has the same problem BUT it is a legal requirement to clear all of the brush from your land by 31st March each year under penalty of a BIG fine! Yes, Southern Europe does have forest fires but they are comparatively minor campared to California for this reason. Also, many fires in Spain and portugal are started by arson, some of which is carried out by unscrulupous timber merchants because you can buy scorched wood for a tiny fraction of the normal price and just plane off the scorching. In Portugal there have been instances of arson carried out by firemen. The country's fire fighters are paid voluntters, paid only when they are actually attending a fire. The wages in the fire brigades are much higher than the normal working wage so it make a firefighter a great deal of extra money to be doing that as opposed to his normal job and all Portuguese employers are legally obliged to give volunteer firemen whatever time off they need to carry out their fire duties.

Couldn't have come at a better time, can't think of a better distraction form other serious matters plaguing the government right now.
Ed Miliband is focusing on wind and solar which is not what we should be looking at for our climate, the UK has the most unpredictable weather globally, and we are looking to invest at least a £Trillion on solar, wind, carbon capture and infrastructure all of which will be old technology and even more expensive than it is now, the older it gets the more expensive. Whilst there are new technologies being developed that will be more cost effective less destructive to the environment than solar and wind, and provide plentiful affordable clean energy. But we won't be able to take advantage of it because we will have spent so much on solar and wind and the infrastructure required, it will be too costly and difficult to change over to newer technologies and we will be behind, and stuck in the dark ages as we will continue to lose manufacturing and face the real risk of blackouts and energy rationing and energy too expensive for us to use.
That guy is a idiot. The UK DOES NOT buy gas from Russia. We get it from Norway and have it shipped (even less green) from USA and The Middle East. Even if we go all in with Ed's plans we are still going to need Gas to keep the base load on the grind and generate power (as in the last 6 months) were Ed's green technologies didn't generate anything.
