Around 1970 you could buy the same bike that were used in the tour de france for $285.
Actually it costs nothing since the sponsor gives it to them for free. Maybe the sponsor even pays the team to use their bike, for the advertising value?

Hi I'm 65 this year I would like to build a bike that has the same gear set that they use in the tour de france . What do they use ? What is the cheapest frame, tires and bar I can get so I can act like I'm really racing . Is the number of gears the same on all the bikes in the race ?
