Senior Conservatives, including former Prime Minister Liz Truss, are calling for the release of Lucy Connolly, jailed for a social media post after the Southport murders.
Suella Braverman called the 31-month sentence “excessive” and claimed Connolly was a victim of a “two-tier justice system.”
Connolly, a childminder, admitted to inciting racial hatred after writing on X about deporting asylum seekers and burning hotels. She deleted the post within hours, but it had already been widely shared.
She’s been in prison since October and is appealing her sentence, arguing the judge misjudged its severity and didn’t fully consider her personal trauma, including the loss of her young son.

That sentence was clearly an over excessive sentence. In fact that sentence could have been suspended for 6 months. Why wasnt it. Because the courts are making an example out of this young woman and indoing so sending out a clear message that this sort of media opinion will not be tolirated. This is not justice. This is just the law courts being spiteful. An over excessive use of power.

She and others who were jailed for Southport social media posts were conned by their duty solicitors who colluded with the cps to get these people to plead guilty so that they could be sentenced by the courts swiftly those who declined to plead guilty for similar reasons were never taken to court that is the real scandal

Disgusting sentence, my sons friend was attacked by 2 men when only playing pool , he had severe injuries, my son had concussion after restraining one attacker by other holding him until police arrived. Both have walked with suspended sentences no jail time for nearly killing an innocent person. They had also assaulted 2 young females. The law is an ass criminals walk free and hurty words shared online gets you long jail time. No wonder people have lost faith in our country
