Stage 18 of the Tour de France is a very hilly time trial. This presents some difficult equipment choices that need some custom solutions and bikes for riders like Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana.

Stage 18 of the Tour de France features a short flat section, a big climb, and then a short descent. This could be one of the decisive stages of the race for the podium challengers like Porte, Quintana, Yates and Mollema. While most of the Tour de France riders will ride on a TT bike or a road bike, the favourites will be on custom road bike/time trial bike hybrids that optimise for both bike weight and aerodynamics.

  1. How is that brake caliper cover not a fairing? According to Google, a fairing is "an external metal or plastic structure added to increase streamlining and reduce drag." I thought fairings weren't allowed.

  2. Could you talk about the chainrings that Chris Froome used on his normal bike? He was supposed to have some chainrings that only he was allowed to use.

  3. It seems that the GCN curse has struck again. Dan says Mollema has a good change of finishing on the tdf podium. Two days later he crashes and loses his podium spot. Mabye better not to do any predictions guys. haha
