Neil and I ripped over to Marin County with one mission: set some PRs on a couple of fast, iconic descents. Now that we’re on XC bikes instead of gravel rigs, we wanted to see just how much faster we could go—and it turns out, a lot faster.

These descents aren’t super technical, but they’re fast and flowy, and we managed to grab PRs on both. I also tested my new High Above hip pack—it held up like a champ, even after I took a small tumble (nothing flew out!). My only mistake? Not packing enough snacks. Lesson learned.

Watch the full breakdown, the runs, and the aftermath. XC bikes are fun, fast, and maybe just a little sketchy.

  1. I think this means its time for a gravel bike that can fit a pair of thunder burts =P. You should do the the descent from Mt Tam at the top of alpine dam to the north side of bolinas ridge, exiting on Sr Francis Drake- that path is a nutcracker on a gravel bike but absolutely sublime on a full suspension XC bike.
