I've been cycling for a bit over a year on an old Trek 2120 an I'm ready for an upgrade.

I mostly ride for endurance and fitness. I do a few 100 mile rides a year and most of my training rides land between 1-2 hours. I also hope to get into triathlons in the next year or two, sprints all the way up to half-ironmans.

My budget is not large, right around 2k. At that price it seems I can either have a carbon frame and a discount groupset, like the Ari Empire Sport (Tiagra/FSA hybrid) or an aluminum frame with a mid-range groupset, like the Trek Domane AL5 Gen 4 (Shimano 105).

Which way should I be leaning? What are the pros/cons of either?
