🚴 Cannock Chase MTB Review – Fast Flow, Tech & Wildlife Encounters on Follow the Dog Trail
Join me for a full ride and honest review of the Follow the Dog trail at Cannock Chase Trail Centre – one of the UK’s most iconic red routes. This trail offers a great mix of flow, punchy climbs, and technical features — but it’s not without a few quirks.
🔍 While the route is well thought out and a lot of fun, there are some route-finding issues on the red trail where signage isn’t always clear. It’s something to be aware of, but once you find the right lines, it’s a rewarding and enjoyable ride from start to finish.
🌲 What really sets this trail apart is how peaceful and immersive it feels — easily the most tranquil trail centre I’ve ridden. With birdsong echoing through the woods and wildlife all around, I was lucky enough to spot two huge stags running right across the trail – a truly unforgettable moment!
💬 If you’re from the Midlands and this trail is on your doorstep — get out and get it done! Even riders from further afield will find plenty to love here. It’s a well-designed trail with a great atmosphere and solid MTB flow.
🌄 And it’s not just about the red route — Cannock Chase offers immense cross-country riding potential, with limitless possibilities for bigger loops, gravel exploration, and longer adventures across stunning forest landscapes.
📍 Highlights of this ride:
Fast, flowy red trail with fun technical features
Some unclear signage – be ready to navigate
Serene atmosphere with real forest immersion
Wildlife sightings – including two majestic stags!
Huge XC riding potential beyond the trail centre loop

Hi yeah nice place I see what you mean about information about where to go that used to be same at pines but there spending a bit of money on the trails now and a little bit on information anyway I agree it’s good to get up and be early on trails sets you up for the day and maybe a pint lol 😂 cheers 🍻🤘🏻
I've done the Donkey at CC many times. I was lucky a friend showed me around otherwise I'd have got lost a few times as well. Unfortunately you missed the last section of Follow the Dog after Tackeroo camping area, starting with Son of a Chain Slapper which then carries you down to the cafe along mostly fast twisty sections.
This was a great watch, Im local but dont really ride the marked trails much….. you were soooo close to some epic off piste.
Follow the dog is good, the monkey is great and there are also some epic OP trails on that side and its close to Stile Cop which is a downhill bike park style area.
You can pretty much find any type of riding at the Chase.
Great video
Looks mint mate…:: by the way I have just had to subscribe again. You tube unsubscribed me for some reason?.!😮
Great video and I’m lucky enough to ride it a lot with it being my local. You haven’t even started to scratch the surface of trails either. There’s so many off-piste trails which you’ve already rode past some and you could spend a whole weekend there and still not enough time to see it all and I’m grateful to have such a great place on the doorstep 👌🏼
Great video and especially nice spinning before work, mate 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
