ENGWE ENGINE X

If you’ve followed the channel a while you know we cycle a fair bit, you also know Rick has made no secret of hoping a supplier would contact us and offer a fat tyre bike! Well finally Engwe came good and offered this Engine X to test, and it’s FANTASTIC! Since filming it’s being used 3 out of 5 days a week for a 30 mile round trip to work and back, and we can confirm it’s a great bike, we hope you enjoy the review and hopefully it’s the start of a great partnership with Engwe.

Hi We’re Rick, Heather & our dog Poppy and we travel the U.K in our S&L Apollo camper van “Athena”
We film the places we visit as our own diary, these videos are meant as a little memento for us but we’re happy to share them with you if you want to watch.
We’re just an ordinary couple in our 50’s filming our adventures with basic equipment so don’t expect loads of flash camera action and super editing with great music.
We also film videos of work we have done on our van as well as van reviews for our reference of the next van we might buy. Occasionally there are hints & tips videos too. We do basic site and area reviews including if they’re dog friendly but they’re a guide only based on our opinions which may or may not help you make an informed decision on if you’d like the place.
We do a mix of off grid camping, pub stopovers plus real campsites too, hopefully something for everyone to enjoy!
Please leave us a comment on the videos, we love reading them and reply to each one.
We try to upload once a week so please consider subscribing to see our travels, it’s free and will really help us.
Thanks for watching!

  1. Hi everyone, I hope you enjoy the engwe review, just to say if you don’t like reviews then don’t watch or leave negative comments, I’ll just delete them…. I make the thumbnail and title honest so there’s no hidden content, it’s exactly what it says on the tin…

  2. Hi both, nice review Rick very professional. Am sorely tempted I wonder if dealership do test rides? Just a thought to improve sales perhaps bicycle hire companies could rent them out as a try before you buy. Cheers

  3. The thing about a review of an electric bike by someone who actually rides electric bikes is you know what sort of things to point out. It's good to see a real-world test too. It looks like a good bike but they could've thought of a better name for it.

  4. Nice one Rick. Very thorough review and it’s convinced me to get one at some stage
Just like the tyres and the off road feel and the robustness of it.
Good about the suspension too 👍👍

  5. Good to see someone who rides bikes reviewing a bike and good you have stuck to a road legal one. I see some many people reviewing bikes we can’t actually use legally in the Uk.

  6. Very comprehensive review Rick.
I appreciate the time & effort you put into film this vlog. Don't be shy to do more reviews.
As a motorcyclist, I take it for granted that the front brake will be on the right.
We will certainly be looking for a electric bike in the future, for the none rider in the partnership……

  7. Am going to get this model. Will get the BMX handlebars though as they make the bike much better to ride. (Seems quite a few owners have done the mod and favour it). Great video btw. Best one on YT.

  8. I've had my white engine x since October. It's labelled 250w but I think you'll find it peaks at 960w at 19.6 amps. Most of the time it runs between 200-500watts that's according to my power analyser which I've wired in. I've done so much to mine including a second battery working with the battery in the frame via a balancer kit. Total capacity is now 38ah. I've also got engwe's bmx handlebar, a 203mm front rotor, a litepro 56t crankset, a 11/34t 7 speed freewheel, bottle and phone holder and a dinky little bell as well as rear indicators. Also have an extra wide saddle with back rest. Some quick release pannier bags. Some brass bushes for the mid suspension. Great bike but does have some flaws which I've fixed. One being the metal mudguards which can rattle at a certain speed, these have been known to break. I've changed these to plastic ones. The brakes are adequate but really you need hydraulic ones or in my case I changed the 160mm disc for a 203mm with an adapter to relocate the caliper. The mid suspension has no bushes in the centre section meaning you have a stainless steel axle bolt in contact with the aluminium frame. The rear part of the swing arm next to the rack has plastic ones, over time you'll end up with a loose back end. The axle bolts I found were too short not allowing the mid suspension to move so I bought M8 86mm ones with M8 spacers. The folding handlebar stem has been known to snap, it has to deal with a lot of force and I was never happy with mine hence the bmx bar setup which makes it handle better too. If you bought the earlier models they had a shorter brace that goes from the seat post to the folding hinge which was only 3/4 length to it and the same with the weld underneath and a few examples snapped. They later revised it and extended the brace to the hinge and also extended the weld underneath and so far so good. The model you have is the revised one. Don't be put off it's actually well built and I love it's rugged looks and to be honest it's the most comfy bike I've ever ridden.

  9. To activate the throttle function, and remove the speed restriction (on private land!) – – When the display is turned on, press and hold the "+ & -" button at the same time for 3 seconds to enter the setting interface. After releasing the "+ & -" button, press and hold the "+" button for 15 seconds to release the 6km accelerator limit and the 25km/h speed limit." Do the same to reverse the function back to stock.

  10. Why do you think the law should be revised on the pedaling assist function on bikes that don’t require much torque to run the motor? What would be the danger in that? Isn’t the pedal assist required just so that it is instinctive how to stop the motor -> stop pedaling?
