**Breakdown per day:**
**Day 0:** The journey began with a dash from work to Orchard Beach State Park. The sun was setting, and the park was bustling with activity, but we managed to secure a spot for the night.
**Day 1:** With excitement in the air, we set off on our bikes, covering 41.68 miles of diverse terrain. It started as a gentle road ride, a warm-up. Then came the off-road trails, challenging us with sandy paths made for off-road vehicles. Despite the effort, the scenic beauty kept our spirits high. We reached Fletcher Creek Rustic Campground, where the campfire’s glow reflected on Hodenpyl Dam Pond. The night was not without interruptions, thanks to boisterous neighbors.
**Day 2:** Rolling out early, we pedaled through 25.70 miles, mostly on roads. The weather smiled on us with the sun in full glory. Old US-131 State Forest Campground became our haven, offering walk-in sites amidst a vast field. A chance meeting with a fellow programmer, fresh out of the University of Michigan, led to an evening of lively conversation under the stars.
**Day 3:** The third leg of our adventure covered 34.42 miles, primarily on challenging sand OVR trails. Dollar Lake provided a refreshing dip, and we navigated through forests. We decided to take a detour on roads, arriving in Traverse City earlier than planned. Unfortunately, Stone Hound Brewing Co was closed, but we found solace in a comfortable hotel room and a ride to downtown for food and drinks.
**Day 4:** On the road again, we biked 43.76 miles with relative ease, tackling a few hills along the way. We couldn’t resist stopping at the numerous fruit stands, indulging in juicy peaches. The disappointment of closed breweries was tempered by a delightful lunch at Fiddleheads Sandwich Shop. D.H. Day Campground offered a serene beach, though mosquitoes and raccoons kept us on our toes.
**Day 5:** The day presented 32.91 miles of path and road riding, with a common theme – closures. Empire’s beach and a game of B.I.K.E. provided a break, but a sudden thunderstorm soaked us. Seeking refuge at the Platte River camp store, we waited for a break in the rain. With haste, we reached Frankfort just before another downpour. Stormcloud Brewing provided shelter, though the food left something to be desired. A night in a nearby hotel was a welcome reprieve.
**Day 6:** The final leg covered 32.6 miles, all on the road with three notable hills. Along the way, we sampled local produce from quaint fruit stands, even finding one selling beers and coffee. By noon, we were back at the car, ready to drive to Ann Arbor for the night.
