One of the biggest challenges I faced was the monotony of my daily routine. Every day was the same: wake up, go to work, come home, watch TV, and repeat. I felt like I was just existing, not really living. I was stuck in a cycle that I couldn’t escape, and it was suffocating me.

I felt trapped, like I was living someone else’s life. I longed for the freedom to make my own choices, to wake up whenever I wanted, and to go wherever I pleased. I wanted to feel the sun on my face and the wind in my hair, to smell the fresh air and to hear the birds singing. I wanted to be alive.
So, I became a digital nomad, recording my podcast in so many beautiful settings. Just me, Jenny, my old sprinter van and a need for minimalism.

Curious about van life and the digital nomad lifestyle? In this video, I’ll share why I gave up everything to live on the road as a digital nomad.

  1. The pond wasn't built for nothing. There was a vision that would have invoked excitement, the vision was executed which invoked a sense of accomplishment and pride, and now, enjoyed – giving back that excitement and enjoyment. That's not for nothing. Now and the future? It's still not for nothing. It's a place to visit, remember and enjoy. There are some (e.g. Terry Pratchett, me, many others) who believe that as long as someones name is spoken or remembered that they live on – held in memories, thoughts and conversations. This is Martins pond. Who's? Martins. He made that pond.

And do check your van insurance – some policies have good deals with the windscreen companies.
And Kwai Chang Caine (and many, many others) may well have suggested that we expect the unexpected but that's just a poetic way of saying: sh*t happens.

  2. Martin, the deep sigh I let go as I said out loud, "I'll meet today as it comes" was a cleansing one. Thank you. And, thank you for sharing what's bubbling up as you spend time with your best mate. "Live today" was a reminder I needed even as I prepare to spend time in my van. 💚

  3. Shifting the little one’s focus from what she’s upset about to something else will almost always stop her screaming tantrums, I don’t think we ever grow out of that trick.
