Day 8: Gardouch to Bram – 40 Miles of Cycling Into a 25 mph Headwind!
Today’s ride was an unforgettable challenge! We covered 40 miles while battling a 25 mph headwind, making this one of the toughest—but most rewarding—days of our journey. The route took us on a scenic overhanging road with breathtaking views of the Canal du Midi and the rolling countryside. We passed through the Cathar village of Avignonet-Lauragais before reaching Port Lauragais, where we crossed the watershed dividing the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
A well-earned break came in Castelnaudary, where we indulged in a hearty cassoulet, the town’s famous dish. After refueling, we rode through peaceful countryside to visit the Abbey of Saint-Papoul, before finally rejoining the canal path in Bram.
