Cycling the Canal du Midi: Carcassonne to Béziers – Wind, Challenges & Beautiful Scenery

In this video, we cover two days of our cycling adventure along the Canal du Midi, traveling from Carcassonne to Béziers. The journey was not without its challenges—25 mph headwinds, exhaustion, a flat tire, and even being denied an air compressor at a gas station. But despite these setbacks, we pushed on, taking a train part of the way to conserve energy.

The route led us through the Minervois wine region, where charming villages and historic canal engineering, like the Argent Double outfall, added to the experience. The canal path was often narrow and bumpy, requiring extra vigilance. Passing through the lively port of Capestang, the impressive Saint-Étienne collegiate church, and the famous Malpas tunnel, we finally descended the breathtaking 9 Fonsérannes locks, with Béziers coming into view.

The ride was tough, but as we always say: our worst day biking is still better than our best day working!
