Cologne, Germany surprised me. It is a beautiful city along the Rhine River, with historic architecture, charming cobblestone streets and plazas, fun brew houses, and much more. I spent a day exploring the city after arriving as part of a Viking Getaway River Cruise. The first part of the day was a two-hour walking tour, booked as an excursion through Viking. The rest of the day was self-exploration, which I extended into the lovely evening. Highlights of the day included the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom), Alter Markt or Old Town Market, Haymarket (Heumarkt), and the Lindt Chocolate Museum (Schokoladenmuseum Köln). It is a beautiful city that had more to offer than I expected.
