All 21 dreamy nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin were performed under the motto ‘Images of the Night’ on the same evening. The cycle, which is an important part of piano literature and which Chopin composed between 1827 and 1846, was presented to the public by various students of Prof. Michail Lifits’ piano class at the Weimar University of Music in December 2023.

The students’ artistic personalities should not be aligned with each other, but rather emphasise and express their individual strengths. “Chopin made the soul of the piano sing. His music combines the singing and the virtuoso in a very organic way, which allows us pianists to experience a very intense connection with our instrument,” says Lifits.

  1. This music is a pinnacle of human achievement and is played beautifully and with genuine skill and vulnerability by these young players. May Chopin never be forgotten.

  2. I used to play these as a kid and played many for church. Congrats to all the kids in their technique and artistry. What a great achievement to play all of these in an evening! this is so inspiring I’ll have to relearn some of them. Went on to play the organ so haven’t heard some of these in a long time. Beautiful playing by all. Hope they all go on to teach others and make it in this tough business!
