ℹ This is the first of two videos from here today. In this one, a Class 350 (operated by West Midlands Trains, the London Northwestern Railway brand) races by with a Crewe to Stafford local service. This is the only road link between the east and west sides of the village, located in the west. Barlaston station is adjacent, on the right (which I show you at the end), but despite still being fully equipped with all its original infrastructure, the station hasn’t seen a train stop since May 2004. It was closed “temporarily” for engineering works and a bus service was provided during the closure, but it never reopened. It’s odd that there’s a local service passing through, the station would be a cheap reopening and the village has the population to warrant it… but the various campaigns to get it reinstated haven’t succeeded yet. It was a beautiful ride here from Stone, along the canal path (part of National Cycle Route 5).
