Join Wheelers At Large on an epic gravel cycling adventure across the stunning Purbeck Hills!

This time, we’re riding in a group of six, tackling some of the best off-road trails in Dorset. Starting at the Sandbanks Ferry, we take on a mix of gravel and scenic coastal paths, passing through Corfe Castle, Worth Matravers, Swanage, and an exhilarating downhill ride across Ballard Down towards the breathtaking Old Harry Rocks.

Just to empty the tanks a little further after all the climbing we ride in a pace line on the flat run back to the Sandbanks Ferry.

Whether you’re into road cycling, gravel biking, or cycling challenges, this ride has something for everyone! If you’re looking for gravel bike routes in the UK or want to see the Sonder Camino AL in action, this video is for you.

  1. That was such a nice ride! Blue skies, ferry, the end of the world and everything! I want to do that ride!
I especially liked that green hill down hill to "the end of the world" – amazing!
Julie, you really don't like cows, and I think you're probably right. I was reading the other day….oh, better not say…

  2. Julie great job facing bovinophboa. Mike you giving Julie strict instructions thats like holding the ocean back with a spoon 😅. Your early am rides are working keep up the great work thanks for the ride bunkie

  3. Glad you've had the same weather we've been having these last few days – absolutely gorgeous! Frosty starts mind you, but so good to be out and about in after all the gloom of the last few months.
Great news about the Giant Mike, all sorted in pretty quick time unlike some of the horror stories you hear about where warranty claims take months to be resolved.
Well done for taking on the murdery mooeys, they really do need to be treated with a bit of sensible caution, especially when they've got young'uns around.
    Great ride!

  4. Spring has definitely sprung. It's been gorgeous the past few days. I've managed a few rides myself. You're right, we are so lucky to live in such beautiful places. We've just moved to the South Hams from Wales, both of which are really lovely. Though I can't believe how much busier it is here, and it's not even peak holiday season yet. As an aside, can I ask what video editing software you use? Your videos are always seamless, whereas mine are very patchy.

  5. Well done Mike and Julie great ride, never even thought about cows being dangerous, I've been around them all my life and never worried about them.
Enjoy your week hopefully the sun will stay with us for a few weeks

  6. I must admit you do live in a beautiful part of the country, I'm also fortunate that I can get to ride in the Dolgellau Barmouth and Bala areas every other week as we have a little caravan there .Well done with your fitness Julie , if you get dropped so what you are out enjoying a smashing ride

  7. Love this. I'm currently at home stuck nursing and hip injury. No chance of a ride for a while yet. However, I'd love this to be an aim for me. Is there a route you can share with me? I'm not sure of how you got from the ferry to Corfe and then back to the ferry!

  8. Take it easy, Julie. Coming back from your medical is a long journey… My problem in reality took over 1 year. Enjoy and avoid suffering. Over effort is unnecessary and unproductive. 😊

  9. Some of my roots are in Langton Matravers and Worth Matravers and Corfe. Ancestors names everywhere in local churchyards, a lot of them were stone masons in Purbeck quarries.

  10. Great to see the sun and blue skies. Lovely video with such fantastic scenery. You are correct your gravel is good, in winter our gravel rides are mud, mud, mud only passable with a mountain bike😢. Great ride Julie 👌
