Part Eight of my project to walk from Land’s End to Ness Point – the furthest western point of England to the furthest eastern point.

I spent a rather chilly night on the moor but felt proud for sticking it out and managing to keep myself dry and fed.

Today brought some more showers, so I booked a room in Okehampton Youth Hostel so that I could get stuff dry.

I managed to find an inn serving a very welcome cooked breakfast in Lydford, and gave myself the luxury of a sit down in the warm and dry. This was an easier day as I was able to follow the Granite Way, a former railway turned walking and cycling trail between Lydford and Okehampton.

This is a beautiful trail with great views of Dartmoor, I think it’s very popular with Lejog completers.

I felt very weary and by the time I reached Okehampton I was walking extremely slowly. It was such a relief to reach the Youth Hostel and have a warm shower.

I walked into town to find a Wetherspoons, not realising that the Youth Hostel had a restaurant – D’oh!

  1. That was such a tough summer for rain. An amazing solo trip. Slow ways have routes from town to town that say if they have been checked to make sure they are ok. Which might have been useful in Cornwall. There is a paper map or online. Off road Cycle routes can be good and they can be quick going all across the country if everywhere is muddy. That looked a nice one.
