When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I have chest pain and breathlessness so until the doctors get my medication right I can’t run. After a few days of feeling very low as a result, I bought the ADO Air 20 e-bike so I can continue doing what I love, getting out into the countryside, electric motor and GTN spray to the rescue.
Today we cover some places I know well so I can give the bike a shake down on familiar terrain. We start in Winsford and follow a stretch of the Weaver Way to Northwich, heading through Hartford and down the back lanes to Cuddington to pick up the Whitegate Way, a disused railway that joined the salt mine to the main Chester line. Finally we pick up cycle route 5 again on the Weaver Way back to the starting point. The total route was 17.5 miles.

I grew up in Weaverham, went to Sir John Deanes in Northwich and currently live in Winsford (also lived in Cuddington for a few months in the early 2000s) – so all very familiar territory for me. I actually picked up the cheaper (A20+) ADO folding e-bike last week for recovery/light cross training/just to get out so will be interesting to see how it compares. Short of a quick blast around the Close I've not had chance to test it properly yet (still recovering from the Chester Half last Sunday). Your Air 20 seemed to get up those hills very nicely (thinking up from Hunts Lock and Weaverham Road into Cuddington in particular). Thanks for sharing!
What a lovely trail. Glad the ebike is helping you to do the thing that you love. I used to do some pretty long hikes but when an accident gave me a dodgy knee I took up cycling which is still a lifeline for me decades later.
Hi
I am in a very similar situation and am looking at a few different ADO models. But the one thing I can't seem to get a handle on with the Air 20 is how it handles hills. I am unfit due to long covid, short of breath through most exertion.
I took one of my cities rental ebikes out for a ride today, it has no gears you can change, getting on a steeper bit of a hill the power seemed to go and it left me with quite a bit of effort to get up to the top.
How have you found hills with the Air?
I am considering the A20+ as it's got a few gears which might make hills easier.
This looks like the way forward for the time being Simon. Walking Running or Cycling it doesn't matter to us as long as you can do it.
Hi I have the grey one, how are you liking it? Any problems with it ?
I have a weird question. Is the color of your bike different from the blue bike on their website? it looks like a very different blue and I don't know if they changed the color or it's just a poor representation on the website. In most of the YouTube videos I watched the bike looks more like the color of yours. I know monitors are not completely accurate but this is a big difference.
ADO make very good Ebikes 👍😊
Please can I have the postcode for the car park at Winsford as coming up on holiday from Essex . Regards, Mrs Cardy
Thank you no problem we came up early in May and love the area . Regards, Grace and Clyde
Very nice video, I hope your health has improved and you're still out enjoying your bike. That part where the path goes through with misty water on both sides of you looked very picturesque!
Hi, Is this the International or CE Version Air20? I am looking to confirm what is written on the hub motor. I have been informed by ADO that the Air20 international version hub motor serial number engraved on the motor start with ADO and that the CE motor number starts with RM or similar. Can anyone in the UK or Europe with a CE version confirm what the number stamped on their motor starts with. The first line all appear the same on both International and CE versions and is: "ADO 36V/250W CE". The 2nd line on mine starts with "AMPY0332????????", and this ADO tell me is an international version but would like to confirm with anyone that has a UK or CE version.
Hi, thanks for reply. Although it’s marked as uk or ce, it will be the international version if yours has the same serial number. Also this model has the spare cable socket just under handlebars with the end covered in tape. This socket is for the throttle kit. Only the international version has this. The boxes and labelling are all the same so they can import the bikes. The genuine CE version hub motor is much smaller and is the same diameter as the rear sprocket. When I received mine I was confused as I ordered the Int version but the box and labels said otherwise. Ado have assured me this is the Int version though. You can only find out with the throttle installed as assist on all versions is 25kph but on throttle upto 30kph is possible (on private land of course)
Nice one. I have the same bike and planning to go the same route in the next few days 🙂 One of the hills on Norley Road (going the opposite way from Waste Lane) is a killer, even with the electric power!
Nice video, lovely music. I just ordered the A20 pro.
