  1. Mate legally they cant take it from you because it needs peddling.

It is pedal assisted so this is wrong you should file a complaint with ipcc and claim for a new bike if they have crushed it.

  2. Come on give the police a break as there was only FIVE OF THEM to seize a bike, probably phoned for a car transporter too and then there will be a big transport fee and so many hundreds a week to store it until the PERP can afford to come and buy it back or lose it and then they will auction it and put money in police funds, poor understaffed overworked little dears.

  3. If they can’t tax it the government hates it. If an ebike was free to use and could do 20 MPH without peddling who would have a car, pay tax on fuel, car tax, insurance?

  4. If it only has a 250W motor and only does 15.5mph/25kmh and if it has a throttle then the throttle does only 3mph maximum then it is absolutely LEGAL without a registration plate, a license, road tax or insurance then it classifes only as a UK ROAD LEGAL Electric Assited Pedal Cycle regardless of the bike frame or anything else.. it cannot have a front 250W motor and a back 250W motor or it clasifies as 500W… Within these guidelines it is 100% UK ROAD LEGAL and the Police cannot lawfully touch your bike in this case… BUT…… and here is the big kick in the arse if your perfectly LEGAL ebike falls short of just this one thing then they can seize it according to the official Parliament website:

IT MUST HAVE A CLEAR OFFICIAL COMPANY STICKER ON THE WHEEL HUB WHERE THE MOTOR IS AND IT MUST STATE THAT IT IS 250W 36V or 48V AND GOES 15.5MPH/25KMH MAXIMUM!

Lacking just that piece of sticky plastic from the manufacturer, the Police can use this shortcoming to seize the bike claiming they cannot be sure of the power output nor the speed until they take it for testing and they will run some tests on it and decide what to do from there. If they decide it is unlawful then they will fine you £300 to collect it back from them and they will tell you not to use it on public roads or public property again!
