This video was filmed during my trip through the Netherlands. Amsterdam is one of the most bicycle friendly major cities in the entire world, and it was a real pleasure being able to ride a bike through it and share it in this video!
As always, I have added in a digital speedometer and heart rate monitor, and included voice commentary to help keep the video interesting. If you like this format of video, please also check out the many videos that I have posted riding in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
In this video I used my new Contour Roam 2 camera to shoot the action footage. I recorded the audio with my Panasonic voice recorder. I tracked the speed and heart rate using my Garmin eTrex 30 GPS, and wrote a basic program in Turing to display the numbers on the screen.
Special thanks to my Dad for being the navigator and follow vehicle for this ride! I definitely couldn’t have done it without him leading the way!
I hope you enjoy this video. Please leave comments and SUBSCRIBE!
Thanks for watching!

Love your pics!
23:59 LOL. That is THE DAM. It is were Amsterdam started. There used to be a river, De Amstel, and they "dammed" it.
I think cycling in the Netherland is generally great. But still Amsterdam seems to have lost its leading position to Copenhagen (simply because of wider bicycle lanes in the inner city)! Whatch out the videos about Copenhagen! 😀
Why are you wearing a helmet. The Netherlands is an advanced country and you don't have to wear one.
Strangely watchable, and it is a truly fantastic place to bicycle
Very nice video, Amsterdam seems so beautiful, I would love to visit it soon. Thanks for the tour!
I live in Holland 😛 and 28:08 Wow look at that guy in the white dress passing blowing all his smoke in your dad's face. What a total douchebag!
LOL, @4.05 you missed the entrance to the Vondelpark on your right hand. That would have been the fastest and most comfortable way for you to cycle. And next time, tell your father to take it easy. It is not a race!
Thank you, needed something chilled out to spin with rather than hardcore gcn vids
Thanks for sharing your bike moments. Really appreciate the effort you made. Keep it up.
wrong!!! we still use the hooks! haha! love the video.
Real Dutch people don’t wear helmets
Im from Amsterdam and this is very relaxing to watch!
The hooks you're talking about are still used nowadays for moving stuff etc…….!! Your father bikes like an Amsterdammer…damned…!!!
Tel Aviv is a pretty bicycle friendly city.
Should go to Montreal. I have been suprised how bike friendly it is. In some areas it does remind me of Europe !
5th of July, my birthday! 😀
Nice place to be biking also nice weather.
Its Football , not soccer ! Out of all the sports that are being called football , football is the only game played mainly by its name giving body part ….feet . All the others are mainly played with hands ?? I know its confusing…….or is it ?
"Not a lot of people in the Netherlands own cars" – not really true; Wikipedia shows car ownership in the Netherlands at 481 per 1000 population…which is actually higher than the UK (469/1000) which seems much more a car-centric society. I think it's more the fact that the Dutch don't rely on their cars for short trips where a cycle is more sensible. And if you think those are cobble-stones, you've never tried riding over actual cobble-stones LOL.
Great video ❤👍🤗
4:03 should have turned right. Vondelpark is the place to bike for tourists who cant wrap their heads around basic traffic rules and common decency…
just like me before i understood the code, but now as an annual honed bike rider pretending to be a native when i yell: "Fucking tourist!" whenever a biker-tourist believes he/she has the right of way. cracks me up every time 🙂
Nice to see a bike tour in Amsterdam from a Torontoian!! Thank you!!
Great video!! I would love to see more of this infrastructure get built in the states! I would love to visit Amsterdam someday to try out their bikeways 😃
Nice video, good to see you enjoy Amsterdam. As you can see it is quite busy and tourists especially do not know the rules around walking/cycling. When you come back visit some more places like Haarlem, Deventer or Utrecht and also take in the countryside in the middle and east of the country.
Ps the 'white tower' in Dam square is actually a national monument for World War 2 remembrance and so on.
Well thats a nightmare city for a cyclist. Your speed was only 15-18kph all times. Thats a walking pace.
No cyclist rides that slow, only pedestrians on a bicycle.
Nice to see you biking through my home town with your comments.
One thing: no, bikes do not have right of way over crossing pedestrians on a ‘zebra’ crossing. We as bikers push on but you are supposed to give way, bit of courtesy as well there.
Nice video , take care 😀😀
I love cycling tour,nice city
I found that video very enjoyable, thanks!
Relaxing vid, watched in bed.
The buildings can lean due to the soggy ground and wooden foundation , but most were built deliberately leaning forwards to be able to clear the building using the towing hook that is common in amsterdam for moving furniture in or out.
if you want to go to a hilly city in the netherlands try arnhem nijmegen or maastricht
Wow. Nice place and view.. Keep safe. GODBLESSYOU
That is really interesting, all of the bikes everywhere riding along the streets and parked alongside the road!
why are you wearing a helmet in the netherlands where pretty much no one wears them.
Compared to Copenhagen, this is pretty bad. I would not feel safe cycling in Amsterdam. It is mostly just paint. That doesn't make cycling safe.
