  1. this video came back up on my youtube recommended again tonight and I had to come back to the comments to add a further "do not buy" to my original comment that I'm astonished I forgot to include first time round. That omission is none other than the Ford 1.0L EcoBoost engine, unless you just are completely consumed with enamour and passion for a Ford model's design or interior and have more money tucked away than the price of the car you're about to buy, DON'T BUY ONE !!!!!! Even £10 of a purchase price would be taking an unnecessary risk. That engine in the Fiesta, the Focus and especially in the EcoSport cost us over €600k in warranty cover in just 6 financial quarters until I finally managed to put a stop to the purchasing team from buying any more Fords with the 1.0L EcoBoost engine. The dealership I was running at the time is still(marginally) the 2nd biggest car dealer group in Ireland and only for the strong financial position we were in at the same time, it would've killed the entire group.

  2. You are talking about unreliable cars and you drive a Maserati. In the EU, if you are a used car dealer you must by law give a one year guarantee. This is to prevent people being conned.

  3. Great video, thanks for sharing your expert knowledge.

We’re running a vehicle expedition across the Sahara Desert in September in which teams will attempt to drive the original Dakar Rally route. Our car of choice for all teams to use is the Mk1 or Mk2 Ford Focus. We’ve had interest though from a team from California, as well as the motoring editorial team from a prestigious national newspaper here in the UK.

We’d have to supply the cars for them though, so my question is which would be the most reliable? Our budget is no more than £1500 per car and diesel is preferred as a safer fuel to carry in Jerry cans, but not a showstopper if it’s a petrol model. Reliability is the key factor.

Here’s a short video of our expedition a few years back with a team of ex soldiers suffering from PTSD to give you an idea of what it’s all about..,

  4. If you are selling cheap cars the base stock will generally not have been well looked after in my opinion after 50 years in the trade. What goes to auction is in general not the best and will have potential issues that is the reason they are being off loaded. Having said that I have bought some of the cars noted here spent minimal amounts of money to fettle them and had no problems with them.

  5. Agree with all but the X type. I've had three and three S types. I actually think its a cracking car. The diesels last forever and if you rule out the Jag on engine grounds rule out Peugeots/Citroen, Freeland II's, Fords all sorts with that engine. There are loads still on the road and they are now quite old and rust is an issue on all old cars. Mercs around 1998-2005 are sometimes really bad. Some Japanese cars are awful. My 2007 Mazda MX5 was awful. I had 2011 Subaru Legacy CVT and the gearbox was terrible. Yes cills are an issue but these can be done. They ride nice and are great cars. 4WD haldex isnt to much trouble either. Just do a full mot check to see what its like. My Jag Specialist in Heathfield Newton Abbot, AJ tech, who are brilliant by the way, have a few X type loan cars and one diesel has over 200k on the clock and still pulls like a train.

  6. i just want cheap 1k car 1.0 or 1.1 engine that even if only lasted 1 year, not so bad then… see them on auto-trader but one is put off of course by odd negative reviews so… yeah… hard to know who to trust like…

  7. I have had a Citroen Passat it woas good for hte time. So I went and got a brand new C4. Ishould have paid more attention. Within a week the cheap plastic unlockable glove compartment had broken. I spent about 6 weeks waiting for a "back order" from France to arrive. All round built not dissimilar. Goodbye Citroen.

  8. I recently brought my mk2 Punto 1.2 8v to the scrapyard after owning it for 22 years. Only serious issue I have ever had was a blown head gasket in 2011. It never let me down otherwise.

  9. Every make has a lemon I’ve had 1 new Nissan and a Toyota both hade heater failure during winter , and took months to sort out. Had a Vauxhall corsa 5 years not one bit of trouble.

  10. I had a Citroen 1915, Can't say much about it. Only that I bought it drove it once and hated the bloody thing. Sold it again.
