I was first set up with a manual wheelchair 13 years ago, when I was very slender. Seeing as I’m all of 5’ 3”, they put me in a children’s frame. I’ve gained weight over the years but also managed to switch to mostly walking with forearm crutches. Welp, my balance has taken a nosedive lately and I keep falling, so back to my wheels I go. But I’m tired of dealing with my body pushing out on the poor excuse for wheel guards I currently have. (Wheel guards are a rounded triangle of plastic that attaches to the frame of a chair that protects you/your clothes from the wheels.)
I’ve got materials to make my own guards but I need clamps to mount them to my frame. First photo is my chair with the wheels on. (The Disney vanity plate has served as my kinda-sorta wheel guards for years but they aren’t anchored to the frame so they don’t help much.) Second is my chair without its wheel. Third is an image of a wheelchair with proper wheel guards. Fourth is a photo of a cheap rental style chair that highlights where wheel guards go.
