Liberals are like putins soldiers. They have no idea.
The concept of the deal might be worthwhile, but any deal with Donny Boy – e.g. his renegotiated NAFTA agreement with Canada in Mexico – is sooooo worthless, and this one doesn't even offer security guarantees. Trump has zero regard for contracts, laws, promises, facts. As with NAFTA, he will turn around tomorrow and say he never approved/negotiated this deal and sign a different deal with Putin. Ukraine could make a deal with the EU instead.

Where is the support if the only "reason" for the US to engage with Ukrainians defence is for the material and profitable extraction of Ukrainian resources?

The US now is Trump. And deals in with Trump turn sour very quick. I think Europe should come in and offer their own "deal for Ukraine resources" with smaller interest than the Trump's 2for1 return and clearer guaranties of military engagement. That's playing the game while we all gear up, and that's avoiding being collectively fucked by Trump.
I understand Zelensky is trying to save lives, but there is something totally wrong about the negotiations with the US.
Ukraine owes the US absolutely nothing! I repeat: Absolutely nothing!
The US owes Ukraine hundreds of billions instead. They forced Ukraine in giving up their nuclear weapons with which they could have defended themselves. The US did a horrible job in living up to their promises of security guarantees. They provided 40 year old Bradleys, old Abrahams and ATACMS with very limited range. They initially send two of their more than 1000 Patriot systems and delivered none of their fighter jets. It is therefore the responsibility of the US (after Russia obviously) that Ukraine is being destroyed, their resources robbed, their women raped, their children kidnapped and their men killed.
Moreover it was the US that was on the basis of this conflict by saying to Putin that Georgia and Ukraine would be member of NATO no matter what Russia wanted.
No deal with America! All resources should stay in Europe. Europe should offer their deal!
War ends with a stalemate and different borders, NATO countries do not have the synergy to be an effective military force without the US, when Putin is out of the picture, Russia will fracture just like it did after the Cold War. Countries like Belarus will fail also. Unfortunately, a negotiated settlement is the only possibility unless Putin leaves this current scenario within a few weeks and dynamics change dramatically. Even then, Ukraine doesn’t get all of these lands back. It’s actually not difficult to see where this will be in two or three years. Europe will take whatever “victory” they can and fail to increase their defense spending (again) but will be able to blame Trump as they’ll then claim they could have done a better job.

You are absolutely right that the Russian point of view is neglected.
There was never going to be a deal that abandons Putin's stated core war aims- that is to say, the restoration of Russian security by the absorption of Ukraine back into Russia, and the rollback of Nato to the 1992 membership. Putin would not survive a deal that delivers any less.
Even as he proposes his complete and abject surrender, Trump seems to have simply never asked them what surrender terms they would accept. It is clear their terms of surrender will be harsh- possibly more than even a Russian puppet can deliver.
