While the story of Dead Cells has never been its main focus, relying more on the “rule-of-cool” than a clear narrative, there is a ton of lore in the game that tells the story of how its Island Kingdom was ruined by the disease known as the Malaise. The game has seen the release of several DLCS – The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea, and Return to Castlevania – that have expanded that lore and story even further. Due to how much information there is, it can be difficult to see it all, so let’s put it all together here so we can see the full story of Dead Cells.
Thanks for watching!

I'm so glad you were able to explain the entire plot of the game, as it has been my major inspiration for my arts and one of my most favorite games!!! Solid video man, love it very much 🙂
However, I am still scratching my head behind the origins or development of the health flask. Is it the sap that runs through the Slumbering Sanctuary (evident by how it reduces the malaise), or is it left a mystery??
Thanks alot 😀 DeadCells is Favourite ame of all time! But saldy i never knew the story cos of my bad readin skills. But now I do so Thanks alot 😀
There’s a fourth servant if I remember correctly.
18:23 maybe there are insects inside and those control the barrel
The Story doesnt exactly end where you said it does: the 2 versions of the king merged into one and broke the time Keepers messed up (when everything got glitchy)
– After that, the glitches stopped and when slashing through the enemies in the now ongoing original time loop the 2 merged kings sometimes talk to each other which is highlighted with diffrent colours of the text bubbles (blue and red) when the king sometimes talks to himself
Now I dont know if that means He broke the time keepers loop entirely and redoing All the runs is just for the Sake of being able to have gameplay still going on OR if He is actually still trying to escape the loop
Otherwise great video – even noticed a few things extra that i didnt realize After playing this for like, what.. 350hrs? Good Job:D
Although the CastleVania DLC is not canon, i still consider it canon to some extent, and as a little theory, perhaps Dracula was the original cause of the malaise? But nope.
So the Queen is Vergil?
Those damn three female guards are cowards I beat them all up one by one then all together then they started chasing me on a fire lit platform with no floor what so ever to fight on since they apparently don't need it and I got my ass handed to me😢
English is not my language. But This Video is make so much scene for me to understand the lore. But one things Still confusing me. When player defeated fighting With queen, She revive player again and k*ll again. IDK why she did that. GREAT video BTW.

Dead Cells might have one of the most interesting lore out of any game I've played. And I kind of like that Us, the character we play as, isn't the stereotypical selfless hero and is a dick. It's a nice change of pace.
Assuming Castlevania DLC is canon, and not just "we love Castlevania, fuck it, lets add it to our game" I think I solved what little unasnwered questions there are… with most answers being kinda unsatysfaing, but kinda fitting "It was Dracula all along"
But think abaut it! It makes sense! Who were the Ancient Ones? Dracula. He is known from "high tech" in medieval worlds
Why the map shifts all the time…well if its built on top of Ancient Ones structures, and we commented them with Dracula…Draculas castle is always changing so we can assume his other builds can too. Where the plague came from? … Well it might not be his usuall way of doing it, but Dracula is all abaut wiping out humanity, and in the proces he turns corpses into monsters… that's just automating the process
I genuinely can't stand rogues. I hate them desperately and to my autistic ass brain they seem genuinely unfinished. But
I've owned dead cells on every console in my position since 2019.
Hell I have the Netflix dead cells on my fucking phone. One of my all time favorite games basically ever
Never forget that former IGN writer Filip Miucin copied Boomstick Gaming's review of this game.
A B S L O U T E C I N E M A
The fuck was that mind tingling ending, that's one ASS king 💀
theory: bobby (the guy from the trailers) was the alchemist's first attempt on creating a homunculus and it was "sucessful" just as the king, but after that bobby was thrown into some random place of the kingdom, as we can find his panchaku and his outfit, that werent showed in the game but probably there were one of bobby's past bodies, and the knight at the start of the game says; "your not the first one to find itself like this" prolly one of those were bobby (pls dont take this serious, I'm just joking about a shower thought I had)
The story is amazing
That was a very nice Laure Esposito… I mean… Lore Exposition.
The giant flipping us off was masterpiece game design
Do you think there is any reason the hand of the king accuses the beheaded of being a fake after they meet again? Is it just to make the scene comedic or could the beheaded just be some random homunculus also made by the alchemist?
I have a question : who is the guy in the toxics sewer to which belong a rune ?
This might be an out of context from the video but i really need help in downloading DLC, i have bought an DLC in epic games but i have no idea how to download the DLC i have searching in google and YouTube, but i havent found any way to download the DLC. So i am asking for a help.
WE'LL ALL DIE OF OLD AGE BEFORE SEASON 2
…well except flame face of course
Pretty sure I know the most big things story wise and while I'm not gonna stop playing I'm here to puzzle together stuff and or confirm my theories
When it comes to lores nuntin beats Rappala 😉👍
epic story
“…The queen couldn’t be infected by the malaise, as her body was now artificial…” my guy, we just got done hearing about how the malaise infected stone and barrels and whatever other non sentient objects, are you SURE she’s untouchable? Lol
Bro was just a Nonchalant dud😂
48:06 what happens if you kill the king right there like the first time. Do you just have ti play 5 BC again?
I knew I'd have to watch something like this…I'm too pants at the higher difficulty levels to ever make it through alive so I'd never see the ending. Do I enjoy the game? Yeah, it's fun as all get out…but much like the King, I'm having more fun just going around killing the enemies than trying to get to the true ending of the game, especially since I'm more than happy to keep looping on Normal mode….maybe hard mode but I'm never gonna be comfortable enough to go to Hell difficulty and try and get the ending lol.
The way we don’t even see the King and his glitched out double fight makes me wonder if perhaps, it wasn’t just the story the game shows that comes to an end but the whole world. the King seems immensely powerful, especially after imbibing the Panecea and maybe his power against a matching foe, the glitched double, lead to the destruction of everything.
Unless we get a sequel one day that disproves this little theory of mine, I think it’s pretty plausible lol
