  1. Right there at 3 mins 20 seconds in, I got knocked off my motorbike back in June 1999. Big thanks to the first responders and passers by that help me out, if any are watching.

  2. Must be close to where the original racecourse was before they moved it to Haydock. The Newton Gold Cup is one of the oldest races in the world I think? My theory was that after the civil war ended in Winwick lots of royalist horses were rounded up and auctioned off. I believe you can still see remnants of the old race course.

  3. Nice Bimble of my birth place I was born just off crow lane . there was a lot of historical buildings in Newton le willows and Earlestown sadly many have been demolished which should never have been but you must have land to build new flats 🙄

  4. Oh dear, that new post box doesn't look as though it will last anywhere near as long as the 'VR' one's roughly 170 years. Mind you, I doubt that the Post Office as an organisation will last that far into the future but none of us here are likely to either so we'll probably never know.
Blount's church looks magnificent and, like all of them I've ever seen and used, the Carnegie Library is wonderful. I can think of one or two other people who could be good eggs and follow his lead.

  5. Well that's a coincidence. I was only talking earlier in the pub about Andrew Carnegie donating the money to build our local library. Another great video. Thank you.

  6. I grew up in Newton, lived at the bottom of Queens drive all my life until we left for the USA. (When I were a lad !!) where that new post box is, was nothing but fields and the old Grammer school. I got married at All Saints in 1993 and left for the USA in 1995 so it's great seeing these videos. So much history around there. Thanks for posting.

  7. Thanks for another interesting video, Kieran.

The billionaires like Carnegie back in the day seemed to have a social conscience and wanted to leave a legacy for the benefit of the wider society. A striking difference to the likes of Bezos, Musk, etc. who just want a legacy of being the richest, most influential person alive.

  8. Very well Done Kieran! I'm an Ashtoner but I,ve spent a lot of time in Newton! my wife is a Newton Girl, yes very well researched, but their is a lot of history about Newton that is still worth looking into, also some quite famous people in sport and the entertaiment world! excellent Bimbling.

  9. Watched 'Two men on a bike' , Hugh Dennis an David Baddiel cycling from the Atlantic coast of France to the Mediteranian coast. Bloody hopeless, they and thier production team couldn't hold a candle to the stuff you do Kieron. You deserve to be on the telly. Keep up the good work, your stuff is the best mate.

  10. Loving the local bimbles. My husband spotted you filming this video, so we were waiting for it! He’s one of the local posties. We lived in Newton for many years, but moved to the other side of the A580 to Golborne around 10 years ago. I think I’ve mentioned before that I’d love to see a bimble around Haydock Park Racecourse, I know that you’ve done The Bonk. Not sure if I’ve seen you do a Pennington bimble?

  11. It's Sunday evening and I'm catching up on your older vids ( recently subscribed ) . It's all good stuff ! Thing is, now every time I set out for a run or a bike ride I've got " Big Aspirations" or " Figure it" running through my brain. It's not a bad thing by any means ! Really enjoying your content, and your music is brilliant.
