Presented at the 2025 BENHS Annual Virtual Meeting. Sawflies are part of the Hymenoptera and Britain has about 530 species, some of which are of economic importance as forestry and garden plant pests. Their biology and distribution is less well known compared with ants, bees and wasps so we present Andrew Halstead to introduce this interesting group. Andrew has been a BENHS member since 1978 and before retirement was the Royal Horticultural Society’s Entomologist at Wisley Garden in Surrey.
