This time I am visiting Scotland’s most accessible island, Great Cumbrae. Due to the short ferry 10-minute Calmac ferry crossing, Cumbrae island is a popular day-trip destination. Despite its small size, this Scottish island is home to around 1,300 residents.
The Isle of Great Cumbrae’s 10-mile loop road is a popular cycling route and takes about an hour to complete at a leisurely pace. If you don’t have a bike with you, bike rentals are available in Millport.
Join me as I explore the Isle of Great Cumbrae!

WHO AM I?
If we haven’t met before… Hi, I’m Ruth 👋 and I recently bought a campervan to travel my home country of Scotland after living overseas for 12 years. I’ve hardly seen anything or been anywhere in Scotland and now is the time to change that!

Ruth ,I understand you are promoting the insta 360 ,no doubt a great bit of kit ,but my personal taste ,is a little goes a long way.
Thank you for showing us another beautiful island.
great camera! good pics lots of fun Thanks Ruth
I found the camera work very disorienting. Please go back to the other way you did it. Lovely island though
Being Scottish this woman’s is doing us proud I don’t understand why she hasn’t got her own tv programme she’s great at explaining everything and taking us everywhere places I didn’t even no about keep up the great work
Lovely wee video thanks but not a fan of the 360 prefer just normal video. Millport, lsle of Cumbrae is the proper name l have holidayed there since my childhood, the rock formation round the lsland is known as the ‘lndian’ rock, there is also the ‘Lion’ rock and one resembling Queen Victoria! along with the very famous Crocodile rock, we never refer to the lsland as Great Cumbrae, always just Millport.
HI – love your videos! I was really struck by how green the grass is, even in winter (I live in the midwestern USA and it is snowing hard right now!) Thanks for the great videos and information!
Hi Ruth This truly looked like a fun adventure beautiful area love that you can cycle around the island I would love that and the water views. I love the history areas of Scotland & the various islands, Everything is so clean well kept I wish where I live would keep our building of history. I would absolutely love Scotland and it's island , Id never be at home I would have to do what you do and travel about, My grandmother> ( My moms , mom was born in Lossiemouth, , I unfortunately have never been , Again thank you for these wonderful video's.
Such a great camera! The insta 360 quality has really gotten so much better over the years! Love that for your videos! Now I need to add Great Cumbrae to my list!
Sorry, I am not keen on the new camera although I can see how useful it will be for you especially if you can't use the drone. I would use it sparingly to keep things interesting and not annoying. Loved that little Island and Scotland is fabulous any time of year IMHO.
Although I'm a Glaswegian. I only went to Cumbrae 3 or 4 years ago for the first time. Was working there as security first at the scooter rally and then, following week, at the country music festival. What a fantastic time I had, even though spent a night getting soaked to the skin up at the golf course. The driving range was the camp site and a storm blew in. First night. I patrolled around re pegging tents between changing my socks!
Love you so much, Ruth! You’re wonderful videos. Keep a lot of us going. Love seeing you be such an independent woman. You are amazing and I am always praying over you wishing you the best.❤❤❤😊
Ruth, you have to be kidding me? People do not like cold. Especially those of us who are older. It’s a cold gets into our bones and that’s why we don’t travel in winter.
enjoy your video
Thanks for the video. Winter in Scotland is very similar to spring in the second half of April in Russia.
Great footage, I'm definitely saving for one of those cameras, hopefully they work better at night than my current cameras, which are terrible in low light… Looks like you can change from fisheye to normal easy enough, which looks really cool, it's looks like a mini drone constantly following you..
Another great vlog Ruth & a lovely place to visit. Cycling around the island looked like alot of fun. See you on the next one. 🩷
If your van was owned by royal mail it was probably governed to 50mph simple to remove
Great video Ruth – thanks. When I was a lad back in the 50s, "Millport" as we always referred to the island, was the No 1 place to go as an organised group with the BB for charity fund raising "Round the Island: bike rides. I wonder if it still is?
Hi Ruth , usually love your videos but this one I found the distortion using your camera very unpleasant . I also have an inbuilt objection to adverts especially since I pay good money to youtube for ad free transmission . Is this a breach of contract ???? Sorry could'nt cope with the whole vid , but I do understand the temptation for you and others to pick up an extra few quid , your reply would be appreciated . Mike in Exeter xx
Yet another great vlog. One of my favourite channels. Can't help but notice, though, you weren't wearing a cycle helmet. I know there is not much traffic, but if you hit a pothole and fall off hitting your head, you could regret the decision not to wear one 😢
