I am not a “cyclist”, but I do ride a bicycle almost every day … along with hundreds of other people who are also not “cyclists”.

One thing I really appreciate about the Netherlands is that there is no stigma or group dynamics to riding a bicycle. There’s no “bicycle culture” in the Netherlands, just like there’s no “shoe culture” for people who walk where you live. It’s just another option that you can use if it’s more convenient (and it often is, due to properly designed road infrastructure).

  1. Thank you to the people who provided me with clips for this video:

So many of these videos were provided from all over the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland. My heart was racing after watching them, and I wasn't even there in person. It's absolutely shocking that this is considered acceptable behaviour by so many people.

  2. When I see North America I feel that a lot of big cities from Romania give that kind of example rather than the European one or just put bicycle lane together with the pedestrians(Iasi be like). Except a couple of cities tho. u showing us the future of the cities 🔝

  3. Drivers in Toronto are aggressive with people on bikes. I was riding an e-bike on a residential street in Toronto, going the speed limit and some dirtbag in a car tried to run me off the road! Seeing a car try to run a bike off the road…just another day that ends with a "y" in Toronto.

Toronto is an unaffordable place meant for cars, money, empty houses, empty condos, empty apartments and criminal landlords not people!

People who were hit by cars while walking were blamed by police for….wait for it…their clothing choices.

Among many others, including a politician who killed a cyclist, with his car, with no consequence, there was also a 71 man who was publicly blamed by police for his death in July of 2016. They claimed he was travelling at a high rate of speed and did not "approach the area with enough care". What actually happened … the man on the bike who had the right-of-way had to swerve to avoid a left-turning car. In an effort to not be hit and killed by this idiot he ended up hitting a parked car which still resulted in him dying.

  4. Very true… This car vs cyclist war is useless and just causes harm! The truth is that most people can't ride anything correctly and are stupid a$$holes… Though i have to say that there are way more times i see cyclists ignoring red lights (10 times daily) than cars almost running me over because they ignore my handsigns i'm doing since 5 seconds (every second day)…
Edit: Oh and i drive an e-scooter. And yeah, those are the worst… Switching between pedestrian zone and street as it pleases them…

  5. the word cyclist doesn't mean "fanatic of sports bikes" it only means person who rides a bike, is a description, even if you have rode for 5 minutes, during those 5 minutes, you become a cyclist.

  6. I dont need to ride a bike to know what it's like to be treated like a minority. I, a cis, white, male, was bullied relentlessly in highschool for having "the privilege of being white" or for being slightly conservative, or for being straight, especially for being straight, for being male. My life was horrible. And the worst part is I'm not actually any of those except for being a little conservative and male.
I'm not actually cis, I'm not straight, I'm not white, I'm poor, and this experience has been horrible.

  7. as a former vespa rider in real london noticed the punishment pass only to see them get infront of me and drive alot slower then me wtf ive spat at ppl for that lol

  8. As a Dane, I am appalled at the bicycle path at the end of the video. I thought you guys loved bragging about your superior infrastructure? 😛

  9. I started riding my bike to work when i realized it took the same amount of time as driving my truck there, my coworkers did start treating me different now i ride my bike, i have never been in a car accident but it only took a few trip to work and back to get struck by a distracted driver, my new bike was damaged and i was hurt trying to catch my fall with my hands, my ribs were contused and my wrists sprained, i had to spend 24 hours at the hospital to get checked, the police treated me like i was in the wrong even when the drivers were blocking the bike paths and i had the light to cross the intersection, the driver got away with it and i have been stuck at home for a month trying to heal, my city is full of stroads and dangerous bike paths, watching your videos is like having deja-vue, everything wrong with my city is highlighted on here.

  10. This was pretty infuriating to watch, especially learning about that "Rolling Coal" practice…
I've had similar experiences being labeled as an "e-scooter guy", because there's a stereotype here in Tel Aviv of e-scooter people disregarding traffic laws and leaving their e-scooters in places where they block the sidewalk. I think it's gotten better recently since the infrastracture has improved, now there are dedicated parking spots for e-scooters and some streets have bicycle path, which also serve e-scooters. In the end, it seems that what solves the stereotypes is having adequate infrustracture, so bicycles' and e-scooters' existence is no longer considered a nuisanse.

  11. In Amsterdam you can ride a bike to the brothel and pick up some mushrooms and weed on your way home and no one thinks less of you.
If you are an adult on a bike in America people think you have gotten a dui.

  12. How can ANYONE think it's okay to deliberately endanger someone they're annoyed with?! These videos should be submitted to local law enforcement for investigation. Because a driveway chat with a cop is a much better outcome than being arrested for a hit & run…especially from the person on the bike's perspective!

  13. I literally see no difference between the words you got as a cyclist in America and racism. "You belong to a foreign group, you do something different = you're all the same, justify or go"

  14. What a smart video. Yes I am a cyclist myself (in Detroit Suburbia) as I started cycling as a sport / fitness activity and not a transportation means. This is 95% of cyclists around here. But i see and share your point. I should not be singled out as a cyclist when all i want to do it buy a gallon of milk (no bags here 😉 or a baguette (I am french, i need my daily baguette 🙂) As I try and do ride for errands as much as I can, it is unsafe and slower than going by car – because there are few neighborhood stores and far apart in Midwest Suburbia.
So why would anyone ride a bike except for fitness and/or to save money (a more recent concern) ? As you pointed it out, people want to go safely and quickly from point A to point B and until this is possible by bike, they will drive cars and promote car centric urbanism.
Channel like yours show that it does not need to be like that and there are options. Shows also that the weather has absolutely nothing to do with it particularly
    Thanks for your video.

  15. In indonesia, people go "Ugh, fucking motorist crossing the red light again". folks here are so lazy that if they can't get a car, they'll get a cheaper, knockoff version of it: a motorbike. because its wayy cheaper and still doesn't require you to exert energy whatsoever, the amount of motorists here is as many as the country population to the point where its suffocating. If only they'd ban and enforce a law that says "either get a car, or a bicycle" there'll be a massive reduction in air and noise pollution. I'd be happy if my country could just.. ditch all these motorbikes into the ocean and switch to bicycles instead.

  16. I'm from Toronto, and I've begun to see all motorists the same way you should view a stranger with a loaded AR-15 with the safety off. They might be fine people, but they also might be drunk, angry, irresponsible, or just feel like killing someone. I've never seen a bicycle used to murder a dozen people.

  17. Three months for a hit and run that killed a man? Why are cyclists the only ones mad? lol that's kinda insane.

  18. NIMBYs are the worst. This video didn't even touch how self-entitiled pedestrians get mad when people ride bicycles on the sidewalk. Unless your riding at olympic level speed, it's putting no one's life at risk but self-righteous love to point out the city ordinances that say you're not supposed to ride a bike on the sidewalk, meanwhile car crashes are the largest or second largest cause of death for young people in the US. NIMBYs more about being inconvenienced by 'cyclists' than fixing their broken transportation systems.

  19. In Canada, where ever I am, I cycle on sidewalks, cross into the left lane to face on coming traffic, I hop curbs and do everything I can to avoid cars. I assume the drivers are trying to run me down and I cycle like it's a death sport. Canada sucks. The mentality and the urban "Stroad" environment are most of what Canadian cities are.

  20. But I also saw this kind of behaviour in other „real“ cyclists. I told a friend I had met someone we both know by bicycle, and he goes like „How slow do you ride that you can recognise people?“, and always tells me how fast and dangerous he is, and how slow I am. I just want to go somewhere, calm down😂I‘m still quicker than transit.

  21. The teacher who was literally murdered by a driver who got away with it just because he was on a bike instead of in a car is inhumanely saddening. Thank you for bringing light to this.
