On this adventure I tackle the Hadrian’s Cycleway starting in Whitehaven on the Cumberland coast, and finishing in South Shields on the Northumberland coast.
I could have done it over 2 days but I took it steady iver 3 instead.
This is already up on my cycling channel , so ignore if you’ve already watched on there.

I enjoyed the video the first time Dave on your other channel, so watching it again is a bonus. This is a good route and could be on my list once I have broken my duck after not cycle camping for many years. Thanks for your encoragement, I apprieciate it mate ATB Big Dave
It's amazing how a slight tweak to saddle angle can improve comfort. For me I had to completely swap saddles and now using an SMP Selle with a large cut out, almost got all day comfort now. For ultimate long distance comfort the recumbent is the way to go. Watch this space 🙂 This has to be the first time I have ever seen anyone bivi on a road:)
As for the creaking crank I had that happen on my MTB, turned out the back wheel was a little loose, the bottom bracket was fine!
lovely trip
Great video, thanks for sharing, which route map were you using if you don’t mind me asking. I ride a recumbent trike, so would probably take longer 😂
So much history there Dave, nice one!👍👍
I think Adrian Sworl lives in that area somewhere – if you can – get his autograph – he's often roamin' the area.
Some very interesting looking places en route Dave, some of which I know a bit. I've been to the viaduct end at Bowness on Solway and know Lanercost. I also know someone who lives/lived at Crosby on Eden. Cracking trip. 😎
A super ride there Dave. Nice and steady throughout – with some stops. Hey, always have to enjoy and take it in – I liked the look of the old RAD base but like that old house at 16 mins better. Wow, that's going back. Ah, interesting choice for a bivvy but it worked out. I must get me a bike setup – I'm thinking of that seriously. Cheers Dave. All the best. Mark
Whenever I see your bike trips it’s getting me online looking at new bikes. Really fancying some long distance ones. That looked brilliant. Weather turned perfect for you too. ATVB Robert
Day 3 must have been an early start, I've never seen the trail past Wylam and into the town so quiet!
Enjoyed the video Dave. Especially seeing the places I used to visit on my mountain bike around Carlisle and the RSPB reserve on the Solway Coast. I used to work in the Civic Centre and lived along the road past the Cumberland Hospital. Memories. AtB.
Lovely route! Did I see mention of a cycling channel in the comments?
I had you down as a Carlisle man, mind you, you probably have also mentioned it already. What a great bike run!
I knew of one lough in England (Thurstonfield), but did not know there were others
Really interesting to actually see what's on my doorstep especially Silloth as I'm yet in step foot in the place but your videos do provide many people with the inspiration to go and explore for themselves!
What a brilliant video Dave. I thoroughly enjoyed that one. Very well put together.. didn't know there was a hadrians cycleway, exellent shelter choice also.. I like your minimalist cycle luggage …
Looking to the next cycling adventure.. atb joe
Great adventure Dave, makes me want to dust my old bike down!
Great video must try that route some time, hoping to get the C2C done first….. the ride along the coast looks great. Thanks for sharing
