Today I first have to cycle back a good 13 miles to Pasture fields past Stone, which is where we left the car, but things do not go well at all on that cycle! When I do make it back, where off early the next day from Wedgewood on a very cold frosty morning! We’ve got a long cruise today to get to Harecastle tunnel, firstly we have to lock through the 5 locks at Stoke, but on the last lock we have some serious problems when the canal goes empty and we cant get into the final lock!

  1. Look for a solid bike tire insert, no more worries about punctures. They may not be as comfortable as the regular air filled wheels, but no more flats is great.

  2. Get yourself a mid size saddle pack for each bike you have. In each bag put at least one spare tube for the bike, a puncture repair kit, a CO2 gas inflaator, a set of tyre levers, a multitool, a tyre boot (or a credit card size bit of bendy plastic/cut up tye) a gear cable and a brake cable, a tiny tune of lube and a small pair of battery lights. Chuck in a few zipties and roll some duct tape round your pump. Wrap some cash in a plastic bag.

This is your basic first aid kit which will get you out of most problems. Learn some basic foxing skills from you tube if you don't know them already.

Love your vids, hope you're nack cruising soon and I'll eventually catch up with you on the cut.

  3. Oh sheesh Josh, lots of muddy troubles afoot. That was some mud in which to get a flat tyre, and who, but you, when up to your armpits in mud, would take time out to show us a spectacular duck? Just a shame we couldn't pick up its wonderful colour. You were not kidding about the drone footage the following morning. Stunning's a word that gets thrown out there a lot these days, but this was absolutely stunning! Loved that wonderful orangey/flame leaved tree as you cruised along, followed by the guard of honour of three ducks watching you pass while standing to attention. Oh, and Bilbo Baggins' narrowboat! 😄 Lovely picturesque video!

  4. Needs a djust dirt cap. The valve pushes out under pressure and seals itself. If crap get into it the bit inside can get pushed in and dirt will stop it sealing. Thats why dust caps on car tyres arevery important. If you pust the bit in you can let the tyre down completely. Get a pait of dust caps of an old tyre. Don't twist the valve as they can split easily a d split. Live and learn.

  5. Sometimes it feels like life conspires against us doesn't it! But then you have the beautiful frosty day & drone shots to make up for it. I've gone back to the first video, got a lot of catching up to do, 4 years! Plenty of viewing for me, my my Josh was a cheeky fresh faced 20 year old am I right? 😉😂 Looking forward to catching up to where we are now…

  6. I see this come up in the feed 😮 what happened to taking the week off 😂 you just can't stay away can ya 🤣🤣 ps stoke looks 🤬ed, if they cleaned the graffiti off it would look perfect 😢 shame

  7. It is COLD here in Colorado 😂. Snows from October and well into May. Sunny days are nice. I love that you can have frost but when it melts your grass is green. Ours turns brown at first frost and stays that way until June. Interesting cruise having to work through a flat tire on your bicycle, and pushing it back 5 miles. Wow! That was hard work getting through those locks. Diane, my friend, I hope you slept well after that day. ❤

  8. look on the brioght side Josh you are really getting into shape for summer cruising and bird wattching ,if you know what i mean ? Once again your photography and drone shots are top notch ,well done.

  9. Riding a bike with no mudgards and then complaining about the splash… and then getting a punctured tube but not having a spare tube. Not the best day.

  10. I use to photograph the old buildings and kilns for my daughters art project, it was interesting to see other people painting them in stoke. The pottery museum there is very interesting.

  11. I had a lovely cup of tea on a snowy day in them potteries on the 5th of January 2025 I didn't realise the hair castle tunnel was so close otherwise I would have tried to go there and have a look round If I can find any parking in the area

  12. They are putting so many houses up in our small town but not building the infrastructure to compensate. Doctors surgeries are full to capacity and unless you are already registered with a dentist you have no chance of seeing one. Let alone the schools.

  13. Very enjoyable video, I found cruising through Stoke potteries very interesting, you captured a bygone age, but provides a wonderful photo opportunity too. Looking forward to travelling through the Hardcastle Tunnel with you and mum x

  14. very entertaining mate the first i watched this channel was the breach i loved the early morning shot with the drone beautiful reminds me of the old fishing days with the drive to go out in the cold you have got to get out to get in kid so come on get in
