I'm looking at getting my first road bike and going back and forth about buying used or new. My budget is $1,000-$2,000 which seems to put me in 10+ year old used bikes like this Defy. My LBS has the Giant Contend AR 3 for $1,400, which has lower spec drivetrain, mechanical disc brakes etc.
Would I be better off getting the entry level new bike or keep hunting for a used deal?
