A Nostalgic Train Ride. I travelled along the East Lancashire line from Preston to Colne, stopping off at my favourite request stop along the way. It was great to be back along this line as it holds a place in my heart :).

  1. Was very hungover at Colne the day you filmed this 😂 I remember having a chat with you on the platform.
Would you like a train ride around Anglia & a visit to Cambridge yard? I have some staff vouchers I can issue. Lucy is more than welcome too. If you’re interested please let me know.

Great video & was great to meet you 🙂

  2. Absolutely awesome, and it certainly was a nostalgic reminder of your Exploring North West series (can't believe day 19 was over 4 years ago)
I'm glad you had more time to spend in Colne this time, so you could visit that flowing water

  3. Really lovely video. I haven't been in that area for ages, but I remember liking Colne – and Nelson too: do you know if they still sell amazing 'tasty' cheese at Nelson market?

  4. I can always tell how much you're enjoying yourself by how enthusiastic and loud your signature cry of "SQUISHY BOOBIES!" is.

This one was easily the most robust one I've heard in a while. Looks like a truly lovely day out. 😁

  5. Nostalgic for me too. I grew up in Cherry Tree (and there was one in our back garden). However, I haven't lived there for nearly 40 years. Oh, and my brother got married in the church at 3:24.

  6. I have fallen into the Leeds Liverpool Canal on my bike. It was at Clayton-LE-Moors. The water tasted of diesel. Someone walked by asking if I was okay, yeah half submerged fishing my bike out of the canal was not exactly okay, but I laugh about it now.

  7. Yeah, All the way to Colne [my home town] shame it takes over an hour… bouncing along on the old stock… On the walking the Leeds Liverpool, not sure what you do when it goes through tunnels, maybe we'll find out…!!

  8. Foulridge reservoirs are feeders for the Leeds Liverpool Canal. I am just a bit older than you and a trip from Skipton in the 1950's (yes the branch went to Skipton) to Preston was a bit of a marathon behind a Stanier 2-6-4Tank through the muck of East Lancahire, a bit different today. Mill Hill Mill always made me smile!

  9. Awesome video as always G you brighten up the darkest days no matter the weather and for people like me with mobility problems your videos are fantastic way of seeing what’s outside along with your awesome humour ❤❤ 😊😊

  10. Another top video blog G a lovely ride with great views from the train and above Colne at those reservoirs thanks for sharing your memories with us all 👍 🤗

  11. A nice video G. I remember my first request stop Umberleigh (Devon) and it took me 60 years to stick my arm out to stop a train😀. I've fallen into the canal, I hit a bump on the towpath, I went in but my bike didn't. 🙃

  12. We're having a trundle along there tomorrow, well as far as Burnley Manchester Road and onto Leeds over Copy Pit. Just had an idea, why not do a trip from Mill Hill to Mills Hill? Or Cherry Tree to Daisy Hill or Daisy Hill to "twin station" Maryhill!

  13. Wow! This is a great video. I was born in Blackburn in 1978 and lived there until 1990 before moving to Derry in Ireland. As a young child, a trip to Blackpool was always made by train, which also started my love for trains. Blackburn station had a shed roof back then, which gave it a lot more character, but rolling through the small stations, Mill Hill, Cherry Tree, Pleasington ( which wasn't a request stop back then ) Bamber Bridge and Lostock Hall, always excited me for Preston station in all it's grandure and many platforms. I always had my fingers crossed that we had to change there for Blackpool North instead of straight through to Blackpool South so I could experience the station in it's full glory, the smell of Diesel, the noise of the trains and the hustle and hustle of all the commuters. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  14. Blackburn Ice Rink, probably the coldest ice rink in the world, and believe me, I've been to quite a few around the UK and world…..Great vlog, really enjoy your adventures.

  15. I don't come the UK very often but when I do I prefer to use the trains. Sadly on the last 5 trips I've had issues with Northern and Transpennine and ended up getting expensive taxis to the airport to get there on time. I'm hiring a car next time

  16. Interesting video
After you mentioned ice skating in Blackburn I needed to check if they even played ice hockey in Blackburn and not just football
As a Scandinav is ice hockey a big issue
I also needed to check why the train stopped in Colne and not continuing to Skipton, the line is removed but as they mentioned in the comments below, it might be better to reopen the line to Hellifield

  17. Thing I remember from the time I travelled that line (mid-noughties), was that the driver had to stop the train, stick his hand out of the cab window, and pull on a piece of rope, to operate the level crossing. Great vid G, thanks.
