So the frame is a Velo Orange Camargue ( ISO standard)

The top left one in the photo BB is a Hope Road Series

The bottom right BB is a Shimano BB UN300

To clarify – I'm not trying to use both of these together! Seperately. But I thought both are ISO standard…. However only the Hope BB threads in smoothly…. The Shimano keeps going in crooked / cross threaded (and yes I'm installing by tightening counter clockwise on drive side)

I wanted to use a square taper crank hence the Shimano BB, but it wouldn't go so I tried the Hope just to see if the threads were damaged on the frame but it went in easily!

Tried another Shimano square tapered BB and it also wouldnt thread in….

Please help 🙂 since it seems I'm missing something obvious haha

Thanks!

  1. Not sure if it will help but I always put the non drive side cup in a bit first on the square taper bb’s. The weight of the bottom bracket can make it tricky to get perfectly centered. The non drive cup in first will make sure the bottom bracket is going in straight.

  2. That’s weird. They should both fit. Have you checked that you are correctly installing the right side on the drive side of the frame? Maybe since the hope BB is aluminium (softer) it goes in more easily. Try to nudge the shimano one with a little more intent by hand. Sometimes if you try to use the tool from the begining it makes it harder to align properly.

  3. Look at the spindle alignment from the NDS when threading in the drive side by hand. If the cartridge has even spacing in all sides it’s threading in right

Don’t force it but I’ve had a few finicky Bottom brackets before. Still have a dave Scott ironman that the bottom bracket always feels like it wants to cross thread. Have to back it out and try and try a few times before I get it right. Make sure the threads are clean too. Grit in the BB will make it tougher to thread

AHH, are you accidentally Italian?!… Threaded wrong on one side..
BSA standard on most int. frames these days.

Italian threads are facing the same direction on both side, BSA the drive side has a left hand threading and tightens “backwards” or anticlockwise…
